Message from Dr. Khoshaba

Greetings, SoCo family,

As we May-ke our way to the end of the month, it's hard to believe how quickly the final stretch of the school year is approaching. From student-led innovation to standout performances in academics, arts, and athletics, South County continues to shine with purpose and passion. As always, thank you for the generosity of your time, energy, and support—it’s what makes our Stallion community so strong. Let’s finish the year with the same heart and momentum that’s defined our journey so far!

Student and Staff Belonging

Running the Region Like Clockwork

Our Girls Track team turned up the heat and ran the region like a well-oiled machine, powering their way to a Region Championship win! Every leg, leap, and lap was a masterclass in precision and perseverance. The Boys Track team wasn’t far behind, earning a hard-fought first runner-up finish and proving their strength across the board. Together, these Stallions didn’t just compete—they set the pace.

High Quality Instruction

Shark Bites and Bright Ideas

Ms. Huffman’s Entrepreneurship students dove into their final project with a Shark Tank-style showcase that was equal parts business savvy and culinary creativity. From creative coffee shops to unique dessert ideas, their food innovations were as bold and inventive as a chef with a whiteboard. These budding entrepreneurs didn’t just pitch products—they served up vision with a side of confidence.

School Culture:

Rising Stars, Shining Bright

Our Underclassman Awards ceremony was a celebration of excellence, where future leaders were recognized for their achievements in academics, character, and service. These students have shown that hard work and heart don’t wait for senior year to shine. From quiet dedication to standout success, each award reflected a story of commitment and growth. The future looks bright—and it's already making its mark.

Popcorn, Paint, and Pure Talent

Our amazing Art students are at it again, turning everyday objects into eye-catching masterpieces through the “One Man’s Trash Is Another Man’s Treasure” project. Their latest creation—a popcorn-themed trash can—looks so tasty, we almost reached for butter! With each new piece, they continue to brighten our halls and prove that creativity has no limits.

A Swinging Success – Thank You!

The Booster Golf Tournament, held on May 20, was a tremendous success thanks to the incredible support from our community. I would like to extend heartfelt thanks to everyone who made the event possible—from our enthusiastic golfers and generous sponsors to the dedicated team of volunteers led by Mr. Christian Hill. Your commitment helps tee up great opportunities for our students, and we truly appreciate your partnership. With teamwork like this, we’re definitely on par for success!

Graduation Made Easy: Accessibility and More

Believe it or not, graduation is around the corner (on June 4 at 7PM sharp!) The Eagle Bank Arena (EBA) offers convenient handicapped parking and seating, including the option to drop off guests at the door before parking; once inside, handicap seats without stairs are available in every section, and EBA staff can guide you there. One guest may accompany the person using the handicap seating, with the rest of the family sitting nearby, and wheelchair escorts can be requested onsite to help guests from the entrance to their seats—though some wait time may occur if staff are busy.

If anyone in your family requires sign language services, please email Sam Gero in advance, as this service will only be provided upon request.

For those unable to attend in person, live streaming and ceremony ordering links are available here: South County Live Streaming and Order Ceremony Items. All announcements and details can also be found on our Home Page and the Class of 2025 page.

As we celebrate the incredible achievements of our students and look ahead to the future, let’s remember to Stand Strong as Stallions—united, resilient, and proud. Together, we’ve built a community that supports, inspires, and uplifts every member. Here’s to finishing the year strong and stepping boldly into the next chapter with confidence and pride!

Dear Parent or Guardian:

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time (10:00am) on the last day of school (6/11/25). Medication left in the health room after that time will be destroyed. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student. However, with parent or guardian permission, a high school student may transport over-the-counter medications to and from the school health room. If your student will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, the existing medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program, but you will need to pick up the medication on the last day of school and deliver the medication and completed forms to the summer learning site on the first day of the summer program. Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).

Medication authorization forms for next school year may be obtained from the school or online at https://www.fcps.edu/services/families-and-caregivers/family-academy/school-health-services. A medication authorization form is required for any medication, prescription or over-the-counter, to be kept at school. Please be sure medication orders are clear. All information on the form must be completed. Part I must be signed and dated by the parent or guardian. Part II must be signed and dated by your health care provider. Approved over-the-counter medications given for headaches, muscle aches, orthodontic pain, or menstrual cramps do not need a health care provider’s signature. Antibiotic or antiviral medications for 10 consecutive school days or less do not require a health care provider’s signature either. For all asthma medications, a Virginia Asthma Action Plan must be provided. More detailed information is available on the back of the medication authorization form(s).

Over-the-counter medication must be in the unopened original container and clearly labeled by the parent or guardian. No more than 100 pills/tablets of OTC medication should be brought to school at a time. All prescription medication, including samples, must be labeled by the pharmacist or health care provider. Please make sure that the label clearly states your student’s name, the name of the medication, the dosage of the medication, and the time to be given. Your cooperation will ensure that we can safely give your student, their medication. If you have any questions, please contact your school health room aide, 703-446-1610, or your school public health nurse, Grace Matthews at gmatthews@fcps.edu. Thank you for your cooperation and have a good summer.
