Reflecting upon last week and

honoring those who served.

What an amazing time we had last week Halley community!

Our super talented students engaged in two performances last Thursday.  Our performing arts department has grown tremendously this year!  We have numerous students in band, strings, and chorus.  They did a magnificent job performing for both students and families!

Congratulations to our music teachers: Carol Poblete, Lindsay Smith, Ryan Woessner, and Abner Mondoloka!  Their guidance and talent have truly made an impact on our students!

Our week ended with an absolutely fabulous field day coordinated by Michael Anderson, and Jared Shields, our PE teachers.  The weather was beautiful and students had a blast!  Thank you to our parent volunteers who braved the water games!

Halley ES would like to thank all of our community members who have served our country.  As we close out the 2025 Memorial Day weekend, we hope each of you had the opportunity to honor and reflect upon the sacrifices shared by so many to ensure our safety and freedom.

We are so excited for the events yet to come for the remainder of the year:

-Cultural Celebration Night: May 29th

-6th Grade Promotion: June 10th

-End of Year Classroom Celebrations: Month of June (ongoing)

Cultural Celebration Night is This Week!

world wonders

Parents:

We are so excited for this wonderful opportunity to celebrate the rich diversity of our Halley community.

attendance matters everyday all day

Let's Finish the School Year Strong!

Parents: Students will be engaged in end of year assessments in math and language arts in grades K thru 6th for the remainder of the school year.  It is important that your child comes to school everyday.  Our Hornets have been doing an exceptional job coming to school everyday over the past two weeks!  Let’s keep this up as we close out the school year.  There is still so much to do and celebrate in the weeks to come.  Please don’t let your child miss out!

Illness: Sniffles and a simple cough can be managed by the clinic while students are at school. Consider allowing your child to wear a mask to school.  Please only have your child stay home if they are running a fever, or have symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting or a rash.

Student attendance at school is important all year long, up to the last day of school. Attendance has an effect on student performance and on school accreditation. See how to:

  • Check your child’s attendance record.
  • Help your student stay engaged at school.
  • Report future absences.
  • Understand the FCPS school calendar.

Learn more about attendance resources.

Traveling for Next Year?  Please adhere to the FCPS 2025-2026 School Year Calendar when planning for travel.  Families should only plan for missed school during the built in breaks throughout the school year (i.e. winter break, spring break, summer break, 3-day holiday weekends, and teacher workdays).

Travel is not an excused absence and causes a gap in your child's instruction and educational performance.
