Dear Parents and Caregivers,

I hope each Navy family is enjoying the amazing weather this weekend. We have a busy week ahead with SOL make-up testing and retakes, the High School Graduation Walk, and Field Day on Friday. These next few weeks are going to fly by, and summer days at the pool will soon be upon us. I have some exciting news to share with you.

Next year, we’ll be offering advanced mathematics in grades 3-6 and potentially a section of Algebra in 6th grade. Additionally, I’ll be working closely with our student services team to ensure that social and emotional learning happens each week for our students. I am also collaborating with FCPS to have cameras installed around our building for increased safety and security for our students and teachers.

Finally, we’re working with FCPS facilities management to get a quote for installing the appropriate drop-downs to ensure our first and second-grade students do not need to bring their laptops home to be charged each day.

In closing, I am excited about ending the year strong and building on the solid foundation at Navy to ensure each Dolphin develops strong academic, social and emotional skills as they progress through each grade level.

Jason Pannutti

šŸ’ŠSchool Medication Pickup

Medication Pickup with Image of Bandaids in the center

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school, June 11th at 1:30. Medication left in the health room after that time will be destroyed. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student. However, with parent or guardian permission, a high school student may transport over-the-counter medications to and from the school health room. If your student will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, the existing medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program, but you will need to pick up the medication on the last day of school and deliver the medication and completed forms to the summer learning siteĀ  onĀ  the first day of the summer program. Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).

šŸ“¢Lost and Found (To the tune of "Shake It Off")

Lost n Found image with Taylor Swift

(Verse 1)
I stay up too late,
Got jackets in a pile,
Hoodies and some hats,
They’ve been here for a while.
Parents, take a look,
See what you can find,
Let’s reunite those treasures,
Don’t leave them all behind!

(Chorus)
'Cause the lost and found, found, found,
We need you to come around, round, round,
So many items to be found, found, found,
Come and save them now,
Let’s bring them home somehow!

(Verse 2)
By the thirtieth of May,
If you don’t claim your stuff,
We’ll donate it away,
To those who need it tough.
So gather up your kids,
Make it a fun game,
Rescue those lost items,
And give them back their name!

__

Please come take a look and claim any lost items by Friday!Ā

ICYMI: Laptop Collection is Coming Soon!

"Laptop Collection" with an image of a laptop and charger

As we approach the end of the school year, it’s almost time to collect student laptops. This is a big task, and your help can make the process much smoother for Mr. Kelly and Mrs. McLaughlin!

Here’s how you can help:

  • Please make sure your child’s laptop is clean and free of stickers (barcode labels should stay on).
  • Name cards should be in the plastic sleeve on the laptop.
    • If the name card is missing, you can write your child’s name, student ID, and grade level on a piece of paper or sticky note and place it in the sleeve or tape it on.

Laptop Collection Schedule:

  • Tuesday, June 3: Grades 1 & 2
  • Wednesday, June 4: Grades 3 & 5
  • Thursday, June 5: Grade 6
  • Friday, June 6: Grade 4 & EAC

Thank you for your support in helping us wrap up the year smoothly!

Limited Early Release Days Continue Next Year

During a report to the School Board this month, FCPS Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid announced plans to continue limited early release days in elementary schools and shift them to Wednesdays for the 2025-26 school year. This plan is based on recommendations from the Early Release Steering Committee. The committee includes parents, caregivers, school-based staff, and central office personnel. Read more about the reasons for early release and the proposed early release dates.

šŸ„— Don’t Forget to Check Your Student’s Lunch Balance!

As we approach the end of the school year, it is important to remember to check your students’ MySchoolBucks account and pay any remaining school meal balance.Ā

Families that earn less than 185% of poverty level qualify for free and reduced-price meals. However, an application must be completed and submitted each school year to receive that benefit. The application for the 2025-26 school year will be available this summer.Ā

If families have a current balance and think they may be eligible for free and reduced-price meals, please fill out the FRM application for the 2024-25 school year. Get more information about free and reduced-price meals.

Have you seen our latest post? Did you know that we have a live news broadcast every day at Navy. Our 6th grade WNES news crew helps to set it up everyday and they run the equipment behind the scenes and they are our on air anchors. Friday, they had a Zoom meeting with FOX Richmond's On-Air Host for Connect RVA. They got to ask her questions and hear all about what it takes to do her job. It was a great experience for our kiddos!

Check it out and make sure to follow us onĀ FacebookĀ andĀ Instagram!
