A Message from Ms. Kirkland
As we begin the final days of the school year, students are taking final end of year assessments and reflecting on all they have learned this school year. This year has been marked by tremendous growth throughout our community.
In the coming days, you will begin to see the results of your child's end of year assessments in ParentVUE. Parents and caregivers without ParentVUE access will receive score reports via the US Mail. If you don't have access to ParentVUE and would like assistance accessing this, you can reach out to our Student Information Assistant, Ms. Sara Merino Paz at (703)721-2100 or you can stop by the main office. Our team would be happy to assist you.
With the end of the year coming, we have many events planned to celebrate and have fun together. Families are invited to join us for our final All School Meeting of the year, where we will join together to celebrate and wish each other a wonderful summer. See details in the article below.
We are also seeking volunteers to support a successful and fun Field Day on June 3 (rain date June 5). We need parents and caregivers to help run stations to help explain and facilitate games and to help reset each station between classes. You can see more details as well as a Sign-up Genius below. We look forward to seeing you at both events!
As always, thank you for your partnership.
Kate

We need volunteers to help run each station to help make the event a success. Station volunteers help facilitate the games for each class as they come through and help ensure that materials are set for the next group.
You can sign up to help with a station using the Sign-up Genius links below:

Medication Pick-up
The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school. Medication left in the health room after that time will be destroyed. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student.
If your student will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, the existing medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program, but you will need to pick up the medication on the last day of school and deliver the medication and completed forms to the summer learning site on the first day of the summer program. Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).
All School Meeting - June 11
As is tradition, all grades will gather for a final All School Meeting for the year right after the news on Wednesday, June 11. Parents are welcome to join our meeting. Just come to the gym after drop-off. Plan to stand or join seating on the floor - we have limited seating available, as we all participate together.

Limited Early Release Days Continue Next Year
During a report to the School Board this month, FCPS Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid announced plans to continue limited early release days in elementary schools and shift them to Wednesdays for the 2025-26 school year. This plan is based on recommendations from the Early Release Steering Committee. The committee includes parents, caregivers, school-based staff, and central office personnel. Read more about the reasons for early release and the proposed early release dates.
The first early release Wednesday will be September 10 at 12:40pm.
Phase 2 Community Boundary Review Meetings
Families, staff, and community members can explore and visualize potential boundary scenarios using a customized Boundary Explorer Tool. The tool will be accessible from the FCPS website. You are also invited to participate in another series of community meetings in order to review and reflect on the initial draft scenarios before the start of summer break:
-
Wednesday, May 28, 7-8:30 p.m., at Annandale High School
-
Thursday, May 29, 6:30-8 p.m., at Whitman Middle School
-
Friday, May 30, 6:30-8 p.m., at Chantilly High School
-
Friday, June 6, 6:30-8 p.m., at Glasgow Middle School
Click the date to register. Each meeting will be hybrid, meaning that you may attend in person or via Zoom. Childcare for in-person participants and language interpretation/translation for all participants will be available as needed. Another round of community meetings will be held in the fall.
Visit FCPS’ Comprehensive Boundary Review page for more information.
🍎 Make Every Day Count! The Importance of Attendance
As you plan upcoming trips and other family events, please remember the importance of sending your child to school every day. Review the FCPS School Year Calendar and try to plan any time away during breaks from school.
Children who show up for school regularly develop fundamental reading and math skills while building a habit of good attendance that will carry them into college and careers. Research shows that children who were chronically absent (missing 18 days or more) in kindergarten and first grade were far less likely to read proficiently at the end of third grade.
Learn how families can help form good attendance habits.
