Dear Westbriar Families,
There’s never a dull moment at Westbriar, and last week proved it once again! As part of a schoolwide incentive, our students earned a “Prank the Principal” event—and they chose to Post-it Note my office from top to bottom! That’s right: I walked in to find my desk, chair, walls, and even my computer screen covered in colorful sticky notes, each one a cheerful reminder of the joy and creativity our Falcons bring to school every day.
This lighthearted event was a celebration of our students meeting their Penny War goal. It’s moments like these that build lasting memories and strengthen our sense of community.
Thank you to our amazing staff and families for supporting the fun while continuing to prioritize learning. Let’s carry this energy with us as we finish the year strong!
With appreciation (and maybe a few leftover sticky notes), Dr. Sallie Burch Principal Westbriar Elementary School
Our students have officially earned their bragging rights—and maybe a future career in interior decorating!
As a reward for reaching their schoolwide Penny War goal, students were invited to “Prank the Principal,” and their choice was clear: cover Dr. Burch’s office in a sea of sticky notes! Armed with bright colors and big smiles, they transformed the principal’s space into a vibrant, paper-covered masterpiece.
The event not only marked a fun-filled break in the week but also celebrated the collective efforts of our Falcons. A huge thank you to everyone who helped coordinate the event and ensured it was a positive and memorable experience.
Well done, Falcons—you stuck to your goals and made it stick!

As we approach the end of the 2024–2025 school year, we would like to share important information regarding student report cards and attendance expectations.
Final Report Cards
Final report cards will be available to families via ParentVUE beginning at 6:00 AM on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. This is the same day that report cards become available across all of Fairfax County Public Schools. Please note that schools cannot generate or release final report cards prior to this date.
If your family is planning to leave town before the last day of school, we would appreciate you notifying your child’s teacher AND the front office in advance.Â
Attendance Matters
With just 12 school days remaining, every moment counts. Student attendance during these final days is critical not only for closing out the year academically, but also because student absenteeism is a key factor in Virginia’s school accreditation process.
We kindly ask that families review the 2025–2026 FCPS school calendar when planning future vacations or extended absences to avoid disruptions to student learning. A strong finish to the school year benefits everyone—especially our students.
Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting student success. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to our main office.
The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than 2:00 p.m., student dismissal time, on the last day of school, June 11. Medications left in the health room after that time will be discarded. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your child.
Medication authorization forms for next school year may be obtained from the school clinic or online at https://www.fcps.edu/resources/student-safety-and-wellness/school-health-services. A medication authorization form is required for any medication, prescription or over-the-counter, to be kept at school.
If you have any questions, please contact the school health room at 703-937-1710.
As questions about smartphones, screen time, and social media continue to grow among families, we wanted to share an upcoming event that may be of interest to our Westbriar community. A group of local Vienna/Oakton parents is hosting a Phones, Tech & Kids panel on Thursday, May 29, from 6:30–8:00 PM at Oakton Elementary School Library.
The event will feature a panel of educators, a counselor, a certified digital wellness educator, and even two high school students—each offering insight into how families can better understand and manage the role of technology in their children's lives.
Whether you're wondering when (or if) to give your child a phone, how to set healthy screen time boundaries, or how to talk about social media in an age-appropriate way, this event is designed to provide guidance and foster supportive conversation. It's open to everyone, and the tone is collaborative—not judgmental—with the goal of helping families feel empowered to act together.
