Hello Fox Mill Families,

We’ve had an amazing week, working through state testing, getting disappointed because we had to postpone our field day, but celebrating again, because we found a date that will work best for all our students.  Our new date will be on June 10th. We still need volunteers to make this date a fun filled and successful day for our students. Please contact Mr. Riggs for volunteer opportunities.

Thanks again to the JCC for an amazing Matsuri, and for our wonderful school community for coming out in such huge numbers to show your support. Thanks to our special guests, Ilryong Moon, at-large member of FCPS, Beatrix  Preusse , Educational Specialist, World Languages, and  Melanie Meren, FCPS school board member, for visiting and sharing in our rich Japanese Immersion Culture at Fox Mill.

Updates

Laptop Collection

Laptop collection for students in grades 1 through 5 will take place on Wednesday June 4; grade 6 will take place on Thursday June 5.

Students should remove all stickers from their laptops prior to collection.

Students will return their laptops, and students in grades 3-6 must also return their chargers.

Students who lost their charges will be responsible for purchasing a replacement in MySchoolBucks.

If your child is participating in FCPS ESY, they will need to turn in their laptop at collection, and we’ll check it back out to them for summer school.

Band Concert

Get ready for a thrilling performance! Our students have been perfectly honing their musical skills and are excited to present our Band Concert on Wednesday, May 28th, at 6 PM. Don't miss it!.

Field Day – new date and additional information

Field Day for Kindergarten-6th grades will be held on Tuesday, June 10th. We have been working hard to teach all the games to make sure students are prepared for this event.  We would also like to give you some information as well:

  • 3rd -6th grade field day will take place in the morning from 9-11:15 and K-2nd grade field day will be in the afternoon from 12:45-3 p.m.
  • Students may bring:
  • a hat or sunglasses to help keep the sun out of their eyes (optional)
  • a water bottle for them to carry around from one station to the next (no Gatorade, Juice, or soda)
  • Please consider applying sunscreen before they come to school, as they will be out in the sun for two hours.
  • Please have them bring a dry change of clothes as there will be one water station where they might get a little wet.

We are looking forward to another fun filled and successful field day at Fox Mill this year. If you should have any questions or concerns please contact Mr. Riggs at cpriggs@fcps.edu .

PTA Corner

We'd like to extend a warm thank you to the parents and teachers who made our PTA Baskin Robbins fundraiser such a sweet success! The highlight for many students was seeing their teachers scooping ice cream. What a delightful event!

Limited Early Release Days Continue Next Year

During a report to the School Board this month, FCPS Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid announced plans to continue limited early release days in elementary schools and shift them to Wednesdays for the 2025-26 school year. This plan is based on recommendations from the Early Release Steering Committee. The committee includes parents, caregivers, school-based staff, and central office personnel. Read more about the reasons for early release and the proposed early release date

Don’t Forget to Check Your Student’s Lunch Balance! As we approach the end of the school year, it is important to remember to check your students’ MySchoolBucks account and pay any remaining school meal balance.

Families that earn less than 185% of poverty level qualify for free and reduced-price meals. However, an application must be completed and submitted each school year to receive that benefit. The application for the 2025-26 school year will be available this summer.

If families have a current balance and think they may be eligible for free and reduced-price meals, please fill out the FRM application for the 2024-25 school year. Get more information about free and reduced-price meals.
