Welcome to the Team!

MM

We are excited to announce that Michele Maurer will join our school community as our new Assistant Principal, effective July 1! After a comprehensive search, we are confident that Ms. Maurer’s extensive experience, dedication to student success, and passion for fostering a positive learning environment will be invaluable assets to our team. We warmly welcome her and look forward to the positive impact she will have on our students, staff, and families.

Ms. Maurer brings over two decades of experience in education and a deep commitment to building strong school communities that are inclusive, student-centered, and focused on continuous growth. She most recently served as Assistant Principal at Tuckahoe Elementary School in Arlington Public Schools, where she was instrumental in strengthening family engagement, launching schoolwide communication systems, and supporting inclusive practices that contributed to a positive school climate.

Ms. Maurer began her teaching career in Fairfax County Public Schools in 2002 and has since served in a variety of roles both locally and internationally, including classroom teacher, instructional technology coach, and assistant principal. She leads with a focus on what matters most—students. By championing collaboration, restorative practices, and open communication, she fosters a school culture where every child feels safe, valued, and empowered to reach their full potential. Ms. Maurer is dedicated to helping teachers implement high-quality instruction that supports both academic growth and student well-being. Her recent action research project, which focused on strengthening school-community partnerships, reflects her belief that students thrive when their learning is meaningful, connected, and supported by a united school community.

Ms. Maurer holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from the College of William and Mary, a Master of Teaching from the University of Virginia, and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from George Mason University. She is licensed in Administration & Supervision PreK–12 and Elementary Grades NK–8.

Outside of school, Ms. Maurer enjoys spending time with her family, which includes her husband, two children—one currently in elementary and the other in high school in FCPS—and their two dogs. She is thrilled to be returning to Fairfax County Public Schools and looks forward to meeting Mantua students, staff, and families as we work together to support every student’s success.
