Deer Park Earns Top Eco Certification!

EcoSchools certification represents environmental excellence for elementary through secondary schools in the U.S.  Participation in the program allows students, teachers, school administrators, other school staff, and families to get a clear picture of our current environmental practices and take action to reduce the environmental footprint. The Green Team also works to enhance healthy living practices by encouraging time outdoors, and building habits such as walking or biking somewhere when it’s safe and easy to do so.

Benefits include improved student performance and success with project based learning, preparation for STEAM careers by modeling learning in ways that show students STEAM skills, a stronger sense of community by students collectively taking action for the environment, reduced consumption and waste, increased energy and water savings, and creating and connecting wildlife habitats by developing a deeper understanding and appreciation of habitats.

Congratulations to our dedicated Action Team, led by Mr. Wallace, DP Music Teacher and Ms. Marco, DP Physical Education Teacher, and the whole school community!

We are so proud of our awesome student leaders for all of their hard work to make the Green Team what it is today!

Limited Early Release Days Continue Next Year

During a report to the School Board this month, FCPS Superintendent
Dr. Michelle Reid announced plans to continue limited early release days in elementary schools and shift them to Wednesdays for the 2025-26 school year. This plan is based on recommendations from the Early Release Steering Committee. The committee includes parents, caregivers, school-based staff, and central office personnel. Read more about the reasons for early release and the proposed early release dates.

Lunch Balances

  • 🥗 Don’t Forget to Check Your Student’s Lunch Balance! As we approach the end of the school year, it is important to remember to check your students’ MySchoolBucks account and pay any remaining school meal balance.

Families that earn less than 185% of poverty level qualify for free and reduced-price meals. However, an application must be completed and submitted each school year to receive that benefit. The application for the 2025-26 school year will be available this summer.

If families have a current balance and think they may be eligible for free and reduced-price meals, please fill out the FRM application for the 2024-25 school year. Get more information about free and reduced-price meals.
