Limited Early Release Days

Continue Next Year

During a report to the School Board this month, FCPS Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid announced plans to continue limited early release days in elementary schools and shift them to Wednesdays for the 2025-26 school year. This plan is based on recommendations from the Early Release Steering Committee. The committee includes parents, caregivers, school-based staff, and central office personnel. 💪Let's Finish the School

Year Strong!

Student attendance at school is important all year long, up to the last day of school. Attendance has an effect on student performance and on school accreditation. See how to:

  • Check your child’s attendance record. Did you know 10 days of excused or unexecused absences is considered chronic absenteeism?
  • Help your student stay engaged at school. Did you know you can reach out to your classroom teacher or our school counselor if your child has hesitancy attending school?
  • Did you know we have a late run morning bus? This bus departs to pickup students who may have missed their bus and have no other means to come to school. Ms. Lobo or Ms. Mendez pickup students each day who missed the school bus by 10:00 a.m.
  • Report future absences. All future absences such as vacations, visiting family overseas and even an educational trip to Disney Land is unexcused absence. Virginia Department of Education only specifies these following reasons for excused absences:
    • Student is sick
    • Family emergency - death in the family
    • Religious Observance
  • Did you know all  schools in Virginia include chronic absenteeism in their accreditation ratings of schools?
  • We are proud to report our chronic abseentism rate is under 10% as of today! Every Day Counts!!!

Phase 2 Community Boundary Review Meetings

Families, staff, and community members will soon be able to explore and visualize potential boundary scenarios using a customized Boundary Explorer Tool. The tool will be accessible from the FCPS website. You are also invited to participate in another series of community meetings in order to review and reflect on the initial draft scenarios before the start of summer break.

Each meeting will be hybrid, meaning that you may attend in person or via Zoom. Childcare for in-person participants and language interpretation/translation for all participants will be available as needed. Registration links will be shared soon. Another round of community meetings will be held in the fall.

Visit FCPS’ Comprehensive Boundary Review page for more information.

Kindergarten Registration

🧸 Kindergarten Registration: It’s as Easy as 1-2-3…

There’s an easy five-step process for parents wanting to register their child for kindergarten:

  1. Determine eligibility.
  2. Identify your local school.
  3. Gather documents.
  4. Fill out forms.
  5. Schedule an appointment at Sleepy Hollow with Ms. Menendez at (703) 237 - 7000 or email at AMenendez1@fcps.edu
