Dear Springfield Estates Families,
As we wrap up another great week at SEES, I want to take a moment to highlight some of the amazing things happening in our school community:
🎶 Bravo to our Band and Strings students! This week’s spring concerts were absolutely fantastic. Our students’ hard work and talent were on full display, and we’re so proud of their growth and dedication this year. Thank you to our music teachers for leading them so well!
🥫 Next week, we’re launching our annual Food Drive to support ECHO! Please consider donating non-perishable items to help local families in need. Our SOAR values shine brightest when we support one another—thank you in advance for your generosity!
🎓 6th Grade Promotion Prep is underway! Our students are practicing speeches, selecting awards, and reflecting on their elementary journey. It’s such a joyful time as we prepare to celebrate their transition to middle school. Contact your child’s teacher for more information.
📚 Reading progress celebrations continue! We’ve seen major gains in reading across all grades, and our staff is working hard to keep that momentum going through the end of the year. Keep reading at home—it makes a difference!
As always, thank you for your continued partnership. Have a wonderful weekend, and we look forward to seeing everyone back next week for another week of learning and giving.
Warmly,
April Martin, Proud Principal and Kassandra Flading, Assistant Principal

Half-Day Preschool Inclusive Learning Experience
SEES is pleased to announce a limited opportunity for 2 community peers to join our preschool program for the 25-26 school year! If you are interested in having your child, between 3.5-5 years old, learn alongside preschool students with disabilities in a nurturing, high-quality environment for free, please sign up using this LINK by Friday, June 6th. All who express interest will receive a follow up email scheduling a community peer playdate in July to evaluate the best fit of a community peer. If you have any questions, please direct them to Kassandra Flading at kkflading@fcps.edu.
Band & Strings for 2025-2026
This week your child heard performances by the SEES Band and Strings programs and may be thinking of being a part of one of these wonderful musical groups next year. In FCPS, all students in Grades 4-6 have the opportunity to play a strings instrument and all students in Grades 5-6 have the opportunity to play a band or strings instrument. Band and Strings instruction will occur once a week for the entire school year, your child will not miss any academic subjects to attend either of these classes. Students who do not choose band or strings will be placed in an extra weekly class of General Music.
In order to help us plan our schedule, we need you and your child to let us know their musical intentions for next year. ALL students, regardless if they choose band, strings, or “no instrument” need to return the forms in today’s Friday folder no later than Monday, June 2nd. Even if Band or Strings currently is a “maybe” for next year, please register them for those options now. Your child will have a paper registration coming home in today’s Friday folder, or you can complete it online via this link! https://forms.gle/wGqQAbUvcwvwyrdg9
If you have any questions, you can contact Mr. Jakes, band director, at dajakes@fcps.edu or Mr. Smith, strings director, at spsmith3@fcps.edu. We are happy to help!
Yearbook Orders
Thank you to everyone who pre-ordered a yearbook! We anticipate that they will be distributed in early June to students.
We will have a limited number of extra yearbooks to sell. To place your student’s name on the list for one of these, parents/guardians must call Jackie Trejo in our office by Friday, May 30. We will process requests on a first-come, first-served basis. These will be a basic yearbook at a cost of $20 each.
Bus Transportation Requests for 2025-2026
If your child is a bus rider and will be using a bus stop next year other than the one assigned by FCPS transportation, you MUST complete the Exception to Ride TR52 form (click here and scroll to the link for the TR52 form). This includes children who go to SACC programs at other schools or who are using a stop other than the one automatically assigned by FCPS (such as for child care). These requests DO NOT roll over from year to year and must be renewed at the start of each school year. Once the next school year starts, Exception to Ride requests are not typically considered until September so it is important to start this process now. Please send the form back to SEES by Tuesday, June 10, and we will ensure that it gets to FCPS Transportation this summer for consideration for next school year. If your child will be using the stop assigned automatically by FCPS, you do not need to complete this form.
SEES Computers for Summer Learning
Students participating in summer learning—either through a group program or independently—may check out a laptop if one is not available at home. Click the link for more information.

Limited Early Release Days Continue Next Year
During a report to the School Board this month, FCPS Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid announced plans to continue limited early release days in elementary schools and shift them to Wednesdays for the 2025-26 school year. This plan is based on recommendations from the Early Release Steering Committee. The committee includes parents, caregivers, school-based staff, and central office personnel. Read more about the reasons for early release and the proposed early release dates.
🥗 Don’t Forget to Check Your Student’s Lunch Balance! As we approach the end of the school year, it is important to remember to check your students’ MySchoolBucks account and pay any remaining school meal balance.
Families that earn less than 185% of poverty level qualify for free and reduced-price meals. However, an application must be completed and submitted each school year to receive that benefit. The application for the 2025-26 school year will be available this summer.
If families have a current balance and think they may be eligible for free and reduced-price meals, please fill out the FRM application for the 2024-25 school year. Get more information about free and reduced-price meals.
Student Testing Results Coming Soon
Throughout May and June, you will receive your child’s spring assessment results. If you aren’t sure what assessments your child took this year, there is a list of tests by grade level on the FCPS website.
How the results are delivered depends on the test. Scores will be delivered in SIS ParentVUE or from the school or testing organization. Learn what to expect regarding assessment reporting practices and timelines.
Visit FCPS’ website for additional information about how test results are reported to families. Individual test websites provide report translations and help for interpreting test results. Please contact us with any testing questions or for additional information about how we use test results to support student success.
Support Your Child’s Success in SIS ParentVUE
Signing up for a SIS ParentVUE account helps you to support your child’s academic success! Caregivers can view important information like attendance, grades, progress reports, and assessment scores through ParentVUE.
Once you have activated a ParentVUE account for an FCPS student, you will keep the same account until the student graduates. Information about students in the same family can be accessed through the same ParentVUE account. A SIS ParentVUE app is available for Apple and Android devices.
Need help creating a SIS ParentVue account? This video walks through the steps. Find out more about SIS ParentVUE.
If you already have an account, be sure your contact information is up-to-date. Parents/guardians can update their phone numbers or email addresses in the Parent/Guardian section. Find more information and an FAQ online.
