Atoms Athletics Recap
Baseball will travel to Lake Braddock for their first round Occoquan Region game on Tuesday, May 27 at 6:30pm.
Softball will travel to Robinson for their first round Occoquan Region game on Tuesday, May 27 at 6:30pm.
Boys Soccer hosted Falls Church in the District semifinals Tuesday evening. The game was a tight back and forth game with the Jaguars holding a 1-0 lead at the half. Unfortunately, the Atoms couldn't hold the Jaguars at bay as they allowed 2 more to bring the game to a close. Despite the loss the Atoms secured a three seed in the Occoquan Region Tournament and played host to Woodson Thursday evening and saw an early 2-0 deficit in the first half. The Atoms would get one on the board before the half to trail 2-1 at the break. The second half saw the Atoms catch fire and score two to take a 3-2 lead into the last ten minutes of the game. Unfortunately, the Cavaliers put one in the back of the net to send the game to OT. During OT, the Cavaliers scored two more to bring the Atoms season to a close.
Girls Soccer welcomed Hayfield to campus Tuesday evening for a semifinal matchup and the crowd was treated to a competitive game. Hayfield hit a rocket that found its way into the back of the net with five to play in the half. The Atoms had a few good looks in the second half with a goal being disallowed late to ultimately finish the game 1-0 in favor of the Hawks. The Atoms were the three seed in the region tournament and hosted Fairfax Thursday evening. The game was a competitive back and forth affair with a 0-0 score halfway through the first half before the Atoms snuck one past the goalie to up 1-0. Fairfax would answer to knot it at one heading into the half. The game was a ping pong style game with neither teams giving an inch before the goal opened up and the Atoms were able to strike it into the net to take a 2-1 lead. From there is was a bend don't break mentality that saw the Atoms pull out the win and move on to the region quarterfinals. They will play Wednesday vs Robinson @ West Springfield with a 5:30pm start time.
Boys Tennis traveled to Fairfax for their first round region matchup Tuesday afternoon. The Lions took care of business early to end the match 5-0 and move on, bringing the Atoms season to a close. The Atoms lose one senior and return a great core of young players for 2026.
Outdoor Track competed in the National District Meet last weekend and added a couple athletes to the region meet next week. The girls 4x100 relay team had an impressive performance, setting themselves up for a low seed heading into regionals. The Occoquan Region meet takes places Wednesday and Thursday at Robinson.
