MUSICAL INSTRUMENT INSTRUCTION

2025-2026 School Year

Over the next two weeks, your child will hear performances by the Franconia Band, Orchestra, and Chorus.  Possibly, your child may be thinking of joining a part of one of these wonderful musical groups next year.

In FCPS, all grades 4-6 students have the opportunity to play a strings instrument, and all grades 5-6 grade students have the opportunity to play a band or strings instrument.

Band and Strings instruction occurs once a week for the entire school year and your child will not miss any academic subjects to attend either of these classes.

Chorus is also open to all students in grades 5-6 and because chorus meets outside of grade-level specials time, students can take chorus in addition to band or strings!

Students who do not choose band or strings will be placed in a weekly academic enrichment class within their specials class rotation.

In order to help us plan our schedule, we ask you and your child to let us know their musical intentions for next year.

ALL students, regardless if they choose band, strings, or “no instrument” need to return the forms no later than Monday, June 2

Even if Band or Strings is a “maybe” for next year, please register them for those options now.

Your child will have a paper registration coming home in this week’s Wednesday folder, or you can complete it online via this link!  https://forms.gle/n1BA96adBUEp8Rj89

If you have any questions, you can contact Mr. Jakes, band director, at dajakes@fcps.edu or Mr. Johnson, strings director, at bmjohnson1@fcps.edu

We are happy to help!

FIELD DAY

Monday, June 2

It's that time of year again!  This year we are planning to do a water theme as there will be a lot of water games to get us prepped for the summer season!!!

Below is the QR Code for the Franconia Field Day sign up form.  We are looking for volunteers who would be willing to work all day from start to finish.  If that doesn’t work for you, we are also looking for those who would be willing to work either the K-2 field day in the morning or the 3-6 field day slot in the afternoon.

We are also in need of quite a few items for this year.  I am looking for car sponges, dish sponges, a TON of water ballons, popsicles, and some extra yoga/exercise balls.

We are looking to make this Field Day our biggest one yet!

Thank you,

Mr. Harris - PE teacher
