Principal's Message

Dear Franklin Sherman ES Parents/Guardians,

I hope this newsletter finds you well as we head into these final weeks of school.

I'm pleased to share that we have been fully staffed since before spring break in April! Our teachers and staff have been working incredibly hard, and I'm so proud of the dedication they bring to our students every day.

As we look ahead, I want to inform you of a couple of upcoming changes to our staff. Ms. A, our wonderful 3rd-grade teacher, will be leaving us to join the team at Glen Forest. We will miss her greatly and wish her all the best in her new role. Additionally, Ms. Choudry, one of our 6th-grade special education teachers, will be relocating and pursuing an opportunity outside of education. We appreciate her contributions to Franklin Sherman and support her in this new chapter.

You may have seen the recent budget news from Dr. Reid, and I want to assure you that I am diligently working on our school's budget. My top priority is to ensure our students continue to receive the best possible education and support. This involves careful planning and making strategic decisions to maximize our resources.

Your engagement and understanding of these crucial matters are incredibly important. I encourage everyone to stay informed about county budgets, boundary changes, and school start times. Your voice truly matters, and I deeply appreciate those of you who are continuing to stay abreast of these significant issues that impact our entire school community.

Sincerely,

Farris Thomas
Principal

Student Testing Results Coming Soon

Throughout May and June, you will receive your child’s spring assessment results. If you aren’t sure what assessments your child took this year, there is a list of tests by grade level on the FCPS website.

How the results are delivered depends on the test. Scores will be delivered in SIS ParentVUE or from the school or testing organization. Learn what to expect regarding assessment reporting practices and timelines

Visit FCPS’ website for additional information about how test results are reported to families. Individual test websites provide report translations and help for interpreting test results. Please contact us with any testing questions or for additional information about how we use test results to support student success.

Support Your Child’s Success in SIS ParentVUE Signing up for a SIS ParentVUE account helps you to support your child’s academic success! Caregivers can view important information like attendance, grades, progress reports, and assessment scores through ParentVUE.

Once you have activated a ParentVUE account for an FCPS student, you will keep the same account until the student graduates. Information about students in the same family can be accessed through the same ParentVUE account. A SIS ParentVUE app is available for Apple and Android devices.

Need help creating a SIS ParentVue account? This video walks through the steps. Find out more about SIS ParentVUE.

If you already have an account, be sure your contact information is up-to-date. Parents/guardians can update their phone numbers or email addresses in the Parent/Guardian section. Find more information and an FAQ online.

End of Year Attendance

Franklin Sherman reminds families that Attendance MattersAs the year is coming to a close, we appreciate you helping encourage strong student attendance through the very last day! Every day counts and student attendance is a factor in determining our annual accreditation. You can check your student's current absenteeism rate on ParentVue.

We know students get sick and appreciate you keeping them home when they are not well. We are addressing absences that are not due to student illness in our reminders.

The Green Scene

students working in the learning garden

We had a wonderful donation of mulch from an FSES family and started spreading it over weed control cloth around our vegetable beds. More of that needs to be done!  Our vegetables continue to grow, and we even have some sunflowers and Zinnias sprouting thank to seeds we planted, and sprouts donated by Ms. Stoermann!

Please join us in the garden this Friday for watering, weeding, and sprucing up! Email Ms.Eaton, Art Teacher, at lreaton@fcps.edu if you plan to attend. Parents must accompany their children. We would love to have you and appreciate all the help we have gotten so far!

Our Green Scene club meets on Tuesday mornings at 8:15am. Students need a permission slip, just email Ms. Eaton, Mrs. Essimi rmessimimen@fcps.edu, or Ms. Michalski rlmichalski@fcps.edu.
