Greetings from the WFES Library! We had an absolutely fabulous year in library land, with a little over 30,000 books checked out. We love how much our students love reading!
Student library book checkout ended for the year on Friday, 5/23. All families will receive a list via the email address of the enrolling parent of all books on their students’ library accounts on the afternoon of Tuesday, 5/27. This email will include ALL books currently checked out to EACH student, whether they are overdue or not. If you have more than one child who attends WFES, you will receive a separate email for each one. Please use this list as a guide and take some time during the coming week to gather up all books and send them back to school ASAP. Updated lists will be sent every few days after this and daily the last week of school so all obligations can be met prior to the last day of school. There will also be an option to pay for or replace missing books that have been lost. We greatly appreciate your assistance in helping us get our collection back to its full capacity before the summer so it can be enjoyed by the upcoming generation of readers next year!

Fairfax County Summer Reading Program: The Youth Services manager at the Kings Park Library shared the this video about the public library’s annual summer reading program, as well as many great new books students may be interested in checking out this summer. The video is approximately 16 minutes long and suitable for all ages K-6. Take a look if you’re looking for some summer reading inspiration for your readers!

Attention all 4th and 5th grade students interested in being part of our environmental leadership team at WFES next year. We are looking for students who are passionate about the environment and eager to help educate other students. We will be focusing on recycling, composting, working toward becoming an Eco School, and planning for our new outdoor space. Officers will be asked to attend one meeting a month during the school day and help lead the schoolwide meetings after school once a month. In order to provide leadership opportunities for as many students as we can, if your child is a patrol officer they can’t apply to be a Green Team officer, but they are welcome to be part of the Green Team after school. If you have any questions, please email me at mpmuratore@fcps.edu.
Applications are available on Schoology under “all students” and are DUE TO MRS. MURATORE NO LATER THEN 4PM ON MAY 28TH.
