This past week, our smallest stars—kindergarten and 1st grade—enjoyed exciting in-school field trip animal visits! Our kindergartners were delighted by friendly cows, sheep, and goats, while our 1st graders had a more exotic lineup including a camel, tortoise, wallaby, capybara, porcupines, a donkey, and more! It was a fun and memorable experience for all, bringing learning to life right on our campus!

🎉 Field Day Volunteers Needed! 🎉

fd

Greetings, Coates Community!

We’re excited to bring back one of the most FUN days of the year—Field Day—on Thursday, June 5 (rain date: Friday, June 6), and we need your help to make it happen!

We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help run game and activity stations. There are two time slots:

  • K–2nd Grade: 9:30–11:15 AM
  • 3rd–6th Grade: 1:00–3:00 PM

You may sign up for one assignment per time slot. If you select a game/activity station, you’ll be leading that station—with support from additional staff to help manage students. Volunteers will receive more details about their assigned station on the day of the event.

Pro tips for the day:

  • Bring a bottle of ice-cold water
  • Wear sunscreen and a hat to stay cool and protected

We appreciate your support and hope to see you at Field Day! Let’s make it an unforgettable experience for our students!

Boundary Review Meetings

Families, staff, and community members will soon be able to explore and visualize potential boundary scenarios using a customized Boundary Explorer Tool. The tool will be accessible from the FCPS website. You are also invited to participate in another series of community meetings in order to review and reflect on the initial draft scenarios before the start of summer break.

Each meeting will be hybrid, meaning that you may attend in person or via Zoom. Childcare for in-person participants and language interpretation/translation for all participants will be available as needed. Registration links will be shared soon. Another round of community meetings will be held in the fall.

Visit FCPS’ Comprehensive Boundary Review page for more information.

Limited Early Release Days Continue Next Year

During a report to the School Board this month, FCPS Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid announced plans to continue limited early release days in elementary schools and shift them to Wednesdays for the 2025-26 school year. This plan is based on recommendations from the Early Release Steering Committee. The committee includes parents, caregivers, school-based staff, and central office personnel. Read more about the reasons for early release and the proposed early release dates.

Student Testing Results Coming Soon

Throughout May and June, you will receive your child’s spring assessment results. If you aren’t sure what assessments your child took this year, there is a list of tests by grade level on the FCPS website.

How the results are delivered depends on the test. Scores will be delivered in SIS ParentVUE or from the school or testing organization. Learn what to expect regarding assessment reporting practices and timelines

Visit FCPS’ website for additional information about how test results are reported to families. Individual test websites provide report translations and help for interpreting test results. Please contact us with any testing questions or for additional information about how we use test results to support student success.

Support Your Child’s Success in SIS ParentVUE

Signing up for a SIS ParentVUE account helps you to support your child’s academic success! Caregivers can view important information like attendance, grades, progress reports, and assessment scores through ParentVUE.

Once you have activated a ParentVUE account for an FCPS student, you will keep the same account until the student graduates. Information about students in the same family can be accessed through the same ParentVUE account. A SIS ParentVUE app is available for Apple and Android devices.

Need help creating a SIS ParentVue account? This video walks through the steps. Find out more about SIS ParentVUE.

If you already have an account, be sure your contact information is up-to-date. Parents/guardians can update their phone numbers or email addresses in the Parent/Guardian section. Find more information and an FAQ online.

Recognize Our Staff Who Go Above and Beyond

FCPS Cares

The FCPS CARES Program is an opportunity for parents, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others and show they care. We invite you to submit your story, so we can all acknowledge the good work of FCPS employees, specifically at Coates.
