The Blazers House met their goal by earning 1,005 Mustang Marks over the past month of school. They enjoyed extra recess and an ice pop this past Monday. GO B-L-A-Z-E-R-S!
Hello MUES Families,
Our spring SOL testing window for all students has come to a close. We are so very proud of our Mustangs for doing their very best work on the SOL tests they recently took. We do have some students who will continue with testing next Thursday or Friday if they qualified for an SOL retake. If your Mustang qualified for an SOL retake, you have been contacted by a member of our school staff. You are welcome to reach out to your child's classroom teacher for ways you can support them at home with reviewing for their upcoming retake.
When students return to school after our Memorial Day long weekend, we will begin celebrating the end of the school year by enjoying many fun-themed spirit days. Here are next week's dress up day themes:
- Tuesday, May 27th: Party in the USA- Wear your red, white, blue
- Wednesday, May 28th: Aloha to Summer- Wear your Hawaiian clothes
- Thursday, May 29th: Color Wars- Wear your grade level color (3rd: green, 4th: purple, 5th: dark blue, and 6th: light blue)
- Friday, May 30th: Fins Up- Wear your Jimmy Buffett or favorite ocean animal gear
Below is a calendar of all our upcoming end of the year spirit days in the event your Mustang would like to plan ahead.
I'd also like to thank Mr. Loft and our 5th and 6th grade Band students for an outstanding spring concert performance on Wednesday evening. It is evident that they have practiced a lot both in school and at home because the musical selections they performed were outstanding!
I wish everyone a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. The unofficial start to summer is here!
Sincerely,
Melissa Goddin
Your Proud Principal
School will be closed on Monday, May 26th to observe Memorial Day. On Memorial Day, we honor those who died while serving in the United States military. They made the ultimate sacrifice; and on this day we pause to remember them.

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school. As a friendly reminder, the last day of school is Wednesday, June 11th. Students will be dismissed at 1:30 PM.
Medication left in the health room after that time will be destroyed. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student. If your student will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, the existing medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program, but you will need to pick up the medication on the last day of school and deliver the medication and completed forms to the summer learning site on the first day of the summer program. Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).

Our Mustangs have begun their SOL testing in grades 3-6. We recognize that every student is different—some may be curious about their score, while for others, this information might cause unnecessary stress. We encourage you to consider your child’s individual needs before discussing their results. Scores will be updated on Mondays and will be visible in SIS ParentVUE and StudentVUE.
If you have any questions, please feel free to connect with our School Test Coordinators, Mr. Credle or Ms. Janofsky.
- As we approach the end of the school year, it is important to remember to check your students’ MySchoolBucks account and pay any remaining school meal balance.
Families that earn less than 185% of poverty level qualify for free and reduced-price meals. However, an application must be completed and submitted each school year to receive that benefit. The application for the 2025-26 school year will be available this summer.
If families have a current balance and think they may be eligible for free and reduced-price meals, please fill out the FRM application for the 2024-25 school year. Get more information about free and reduced-price meals.
Families, staff, and community members can explore and visualize potential boundary scenarios using a customized Boundary Explorer Tool. The tool will be accessible from the FCPS website. You are also invited to participate in another series of community meetings in order to review and reflect on the initial draft scenarios before the start of summer break:
- Friday, May 23, 7-8:30 p.m., Lewis High School
- Wednesday, May 28, 7-8:30 p.m., Annandale High School
- Thursday, May 29, 6:30-8 p.m., Whitman Middle School
- Friday, May 30, 6:30-8 p.m., Chantilly High School
- Friday, June 6, 6:30–8 p.m., Glasgow Middle School
Each meeting will be hybrid, meaning that you may attend in person or via Zoom. Childcare for in-person participants and language interpretation/translation for all participants will be available as needed. Registration links will be shared soon. Another round of community meetings will be held in the fall.
Visit FCPS’ Comprehensive Boundary Review page for more information.

Through the end of the school year, McNair Upper is collecting gently used, high interest children's’ books at all reading levels to support the new McNair Summer Bookmobile! We will visit several sites in the community throughout the summer to offer a free “little free library on wheels” for our students. Staff, students and families may drop off book donations in the designated box in the McNair Upper front office.
We are also seeking financial support to fund this project. If you know of a business that can provide monetary donations to support our students’ summer reading, please reach out to Mallory Janofsky at mljanofsky@fcps.edu for details.
