What are your Rising 7th & 8th graders doing this Summer?
Like you, we believe your child is a very important person and deserves a summer experience that is safe and full of fitness, friends, fun and enrichment. FCPS and Fairfax County Department of Neighborhood and Community Services (DNCS) team up to offer a 5 week camp for rising 7th and 8th graders in the Northern Fairfax area. Campers will have a great time participating in sports, games, fitness, art, and STEM activities in a safe environment. The program is led by FCPS After-School and DNCS Teen/Community Center Staff.
Details:
- Dates - Tuesday, July 1st - Thursday, July 31st
- 9:00 AM - 4:00PM (Site opens at 8:00AM for drop off)
- Location – Rachel Carson Middle School, 13618 McLearen Rd, Herndon, VA 20171
- Bus Transportation will be provided from feeder middle schools and other selected stops
- Cost – $100* for all 5 weeks (this does not include field trips)
- This camp serves rising 7th and 8th grade (2025-2026 school year) students who reside in the Carson, Hughes, Herndon, Cooper, and Longfellow Middle School boundaries.

Please review the VIP Information packet thoroughly with all policies and procedures prior to completing the application form. The information packet may also be posted on the After-School sections of your middle school website and some family Schoology courses. There are a few items it will be helpful to know before starting the application:

*Due to budget deliberations there may be date errors in the information packets. Please refer to the dates below for correct information in regards to application, acceptance and payment deadlines. Also we will be open on the 3rd of July.

NORTH FAIRFAX VIP CAMP APPLICATION

- Acceptance Notification Date: Wednesday, May 28th
- Camp Permission Slips and Payment Due: Friday, June 6th
- Mandatory Virtual Parent Meeting: Tuesday, June 12th, 6:00PM, Zoom Link will be sent out in the acceptance email.
Camp Acceptances
- VIP would like to accept all campers; however, due to limitations on facilities and staffing, not all children will be accepted in the first round. Though timing of application/registration is a factor, it is not solely a first come, first serve acceptance process. We consider a variety of factors when processing applications to provide a balanced camp. These factors include but are not limited to - number of participants per middle school, grade level, registration timing, participant availability, etc.
- An email notification of acceptance status will be sent to families on Wednesday, May 28th. Program paperwork and payment procedures will be reviewed in the email of acceptance.
- All camp paperwork and payments will be due by Friday, June 6th. We will offer rolling admission from a waitlist as campers drop out or fail to enroll. You will be notified as space becomes available.
VIP Camp Cost - $100 for all 5 weeks
- Scholarships are available in cases of financial hardship. Reach out to your school's After-School Specialist.
- Families will be notified about payment procedures in their acceptance email.
- All payments will be due no later than Friday, June 6th Participants who have not paid by June 6th will be removed from the list, and we will offer the spot to the next student on our waitlist.
Field Trips
- We will take approximately 3-5 field trips throughout the summer. There is a cost for students to attend the field trips. The field trip fees will cover admission costs and bus transportation. Field trip information (dates, locations, and fees) will be available at the parent meeting on Tuesday, June 3rd.
Mandatory Virtual Parent Meeting
- Tuesday, June 12th, 6:00 via Zoom link
- This is a mandatory parent meeting to review all camp activities, field trips, procedures, and introduce some of our camp staff.
What To Bring To Camp:
- Participants should plan on bringing the following to camp every day
- Water bottle (Label with your child’s full name)
