Cubbie News

Dear Cub Run Families and Friends,

We want to extend our deepest gratitude for your incredible support in making our staff appreciation week so special for our dedicated team. The outpouring of appreciation from our wonderful PTA and families has been truly heartwarming.

Our staff thoroughly enjoyed the treats and celebrations throughout the week, from the delicious nacho bar and tasty snacks to the delightful visit from the ice cream truck and the fantastic lunch provided by Honeygrow. Your generosity and thoughtfulness created moments of joy and recognition that meant the world to our exceptional staff.

Thank you for showing such love and appreciation for the hard work, dedication, and passion that our staff brings to our school every single day. Your partnership is invaluable, and together, we create a supportive and thriving environment for our students.

We want to take a moment to acknowledge the incredible effort our students are putting into our SOL tests and their end-of-year assessments. We are so proud of their hard work and commitment to demonstrating all that they have learned throughout the year.

Beyond assessments, it's inspiring to see our Cubbies continuing to engage with their learning with such enthusiasm. They are actively participating in lessons, asking thoughtful questions, and striving for their personal best. We are also taking time to celebrate their many successes, both big and small, recognizing the growth and achievements of each and every one of them.

Looking ahead, we would love for you to join us this weekend for our PTA Spring Fling! It's a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community, celebrate our students, and enjoy some fun. We hope to see you there!

With sincere gratitude,

Melissa Miller, Principal

Nausheen Haider, Assistant Principal

SOL Scores available in ParentVue

Cub Run students have begun their SOL testing in grades 3-6. We recognize that every student is different—some may be curious about their score, while for others, this information might cause unnecessary stress. We encourage you to consider your child’s individual needs before discussing their results.  Scores will be updated on Mondays and will be visible in SIS ParentVUE for tests that have been completed by the previous Thursday.

Thank you for your continued partnership in their success!

Positivity Project

This week, our school community is focused on the character strength of Purpose. Purpose means having beliefs about the meaning of life and feeling that your life has a purpose. It’s about wanting to be part of something bigger than yourself.

People with a sense of purpose believe they are here for a reason. That reason can be different for everyone — it might be inventing something new, bringing joy through art or music, or raising kind and responsible children.

Having a clear purpose helps people stay strong and courageous, even in difficult times. It also encourages them to act with kindness and love, even when it’s hard. When people feel connected to something greater, their lives have more meaning and fulfillment.

To practice and encourage the character strength of purpose at home, please visit The Positivity Project’s mobile-friendly P2 for Families (available in English and Spanish), where you will watch a video together and discuss a quote and three questions. Below are links to this week’s P2 for Families lessons. Click on the grade level that best meets your child’s needs.

Thank you for your support!

Chronic Absenteeism

For school year 2024-2025, school accreditation ratings in Virginia are based on student performance across nine school quality indicators within the state’s new Student Performance and Support Framework (SPSF). One of these indicators is chronic absenteeism. Chronic Absenteeism is defined as missing 10% or more of the school year, regardless of reason and whether the absence was excused or unexcused.  A student is determined to be chronically absent if the rate of their days absent divided by their total days in membership is greater than or equal to 10%.

As of May 13, Cub Run's chronic absenteeism rate is at 10.2%.  As we finish out the remainder of this school year, we will continue to update this percentage with you in hopes that we can continue with a chronic absenteeism rate of 10% or lower.
