Congratulations to Cooper MathCounts Team!

The Cooper MathCounts team wrapped up an exceptional season at the National MathCounts Tournament held in Washington, D.C. this past weekend (May 10–12).

Earlier this year, Cooper secured first place at the Virginia State MathCounts Tournament in Blacksburg on March 22. Leading the way were Ian C. and Andrew D., who placed 1st and 3rd individually, driving the team to victory.

At Nationals, the Virginia State team was composed of Cooper students Ian C.  and Andrew D., along with Shawn B. from Longfellow and Steve C. from Arlington County. The team was coached by Cooper’s Math Department Chair, Lisa Walsh. Competing against the top math students in the country, the Virginia team placed 10th nationwide—outperforming traditionally strong states like North Carolina, Texas and California.

Individually, Cooper’s Andrew D. earned an extraordinary 4th place finish in the entire nation—an outstanding achievement.

We’re proud to share this exciting news!

NEWS FROM COOPER LIBRARY

It’s the end of the year and there are still so many overdue books – some from the 1st quarter.  All students with overdue books received a yellow notice through their English class last week.  If possible, please ask your student if they received any notice.  A gentle nudge from parents/guardians is often helpful in getting books returned. If books are lost or damaged, students are responsible for the replacement cost. Thank you for any assistance you can give.

All library books are due Friday, May 30 but we will allow responsible students to check out through the end of the year.  Students will not be able to renew books after May 30, but we can help with that if the book is still needed.

Please have your student see us in the library with any questions or concerns.
