A Note from the Principal
Hello Daniels Run Families,
As we wrap up another successful week at Daniels Run Elementary, I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to all our students who have diligently completed their math and reading Standards of Learning (SOL) assessments. Your hard work and perseverance have truly paid off, and we are immensely proud of each and every one of you.
I also want to remind everyone that this coming Monday, we will have an early dismissal. Please make sure to adjust your schedules accordingly and ensure that your child knows their transportation arrangements for the day.
Security Vestibule Update:
As you may recall from earlier conversations this year, we had anticipated that construction of a new security vestibule at Daniels Run Elementary School would begin this spring. However, in December, we were informed that Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) would no longer fund the project, citing the recent passage of the City of Fairfax bond referendum for school renovations. This news was both unexpected and disappointing to the City of Fairfax Schools Superintendent and School Board.
Since then, the City has been actively working with FCPS leadership and the Fairfax County School Board to revisit this decision and advocate for the project’s completion. We are pleased to share that the City of Fairfax has now identified and approved funding—redirected from other capital improvement projects—to cover the cost of the vestibule. FCPS has also agreed to manage the project, provide architectural plans, and oversee construction, which will help reduce overall expenses.
At this time, we expect the vestibule to be completed within approximately six months—just a few months later than originally planned.
We are grateful for the continued partnership between the City of Fairfax and FCPS, and for their shared commitment to the safety and well-being of our students.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in making Daniels Run Elementary a wonderful place for our students to learn and grow.
Warm regards,
Susan Mullen, Principal

P2 News
Dear Families,
Next week, our school community will focus on the character strength of Leadership. Leadership means valuing each person in your group and encouraging everyone to do their best.
Leadership can be formal, like being a team captain, or informal, like helping others work together. It’s about getting things done while keeping the group’s spirit strong. Leadership isn’t just about telling people what to do — it’s about listening, understanding others, solving problems, and inspiring everyone to work toward a common goal.
As students learn more about leadership, they will see how working together with others can help them achieve more. Being a good leader helps build confidence and a strong sense of self.
To practice and encourage the character strength of leadership at home, please visit The Positivity Project’s mobile-friendly P2 for Families (available in English and Spanish), where you will watch a video together and discuss a quote and three questions. Below are links to this week’s P2 for Families lessons. Click on the grade level that best meets your child’s needs.
Thank you for your support!
