FCPS Budget
Elementary School Impact
On Thursday, Dr. Reid presented an updated budget to the school board. There is currently a $121M gap between what the Board of Supervisors approved to transfer and what was asked for by FCPS. This budget, if passed as presented, will impact Poplar Tree and the services and supports we can provide - hitting hardest at the elementary level.
To meet the proposed budget, there are cuts that directly impact our Poplar Tree staff to include the following:
- Elementary Special Education Department Chair reduced from full-time to half-time
- Elementary Advanced Academic Resource Teacher reduced from full-time to half-time
- Elementary Classroom Monitors eliminated impacting planning time for teachers
- Staffing formula adjustments leading to increased class sizes in all grades
