FCPS Budget: Impact on Island Creek Elementary School

On Thursday, Dr. Reid presented an updated budget to the school board. There is currently a $121M gap between what the Board of Supervisors approved to transfer and what was asked for by FCPS. This budget, if passed as presented, will impact Island Creek Elementary and the services and supports we can provide - hitting hardest at the elementary level.

To meet the proposed budget, there are cuts that directly impact our Island Creek staff to include the following:

  • Elementary Special Education Department Chair reduced from full-time to half-time
  • Elementary Advanced Academic Resource Teacher reduced from full-time to half-time
  • Elementary Classroom Monitors funds eliminated impacting our ability to fund STEAM
  • Staffing formula adjustments leading to increased class sizes in all grades

FCPS Fiscal Year 2026 Budget Public Hearing: Tuesday, May 13th, 6 p.m.

I invite all community members to engage in this process and to share your opinions with your elected school board members. who will vote on the budget on May 22.

The School Board will hold a public hearing on final budget adjustments on Tuesday, May 13. Sign up to speak by Monday, May 12th, at 4:30 p.m. as the proposed cuts shared will significantly impact elementary schools. I invite all community members to engage in this process and to share your opinions with your elected school board members.

As always, thank you for your partnership with us in your child's education at Island Creek Elementary.

Sincerely,

Jen Fallert, Principal
