Thank you to those who supported our students for bike/walk to school day last week. We are also so grateful to everyone who volunteered, donated and participated in Staff Appreciation Week. Our staff were spoiled each day and we are thankful for everything they do for our kids!

Bush Hill Elementary School is having their first Children's Business Fair on Saturday May 17th from 1-3pm in the school gym. The business fair will be a fun-filled event that allows young entrepreneurs to show off their businesses in the live marketplace. We are so excited that all tables are full! However, please come out and support our local budding entrepreneurs, who will be selling items such as baked goods, snow cones, pet sitting, Pokémon cards, bracelets, etc.!


  • Congratulations to BHES Students in Chess Tournament!

Bush Hill has 13 students attending an area wide five round chess tournament put on by Your Best Chess on Saturday, April 26th. The team placed Third in the tournament for the second year in a row, congratulations students!

Hello Strings Families

Happy spring! I hope you have all been hearing your child practicing at home and hearing them improve over the months. I wanted to reach out with information about the end of the year rehearsals and concerts! There will be 4th, 5th, and 6th grade information, so please read carefully.

4th Grade:

May 19th: rehearsal/concert at Bush Hill in the gym from 12:50 – 1:50. This will be an event during the school day, and your child will need their instrument this day.

5th AND 6th Grade:

May 20th: rehearsal/concert at Bush Hill in the gym from 1:50 – 2:50. This will be an event during the school day, your child will need their instrument this day.

4th, 5th, AND 6th Grade:

May 20th: concert after school at EDISON HIGH SCHOOL. Please enter through door 17 which is at the front of the building. Once you enter the building, head up and to the right where the performing arts wing is, and there will be signs to direct you.

  • 4th GRADE: Report time is 6:00pm and you will head to the orchestra room when you get to Edison. We will aim to perform around 6:30pm and will finish before 7:00pm. Once your portion of the concert is over, I will kindly ask you to leave so the next group can come up to perform. 😊
  • 5th AND 6th GRADE: Report time is 7:00pm, you will head to the band room to wait and get tuned. We will aim to start the concert at 7:20pm and be done before 8:00pm.
  • Concert attire: Any Bush Hill attire that you may have is fine, otherwise please wear any sort of bright spring colors and jeans or pants. 😊 Please do not wear sweatpants, or pajama pants.

This should be an exciting night, please reach out if you have any concerns or questions. 😊

Lightspeed Parent Weekly Reports

As a reminder, parents who are interested in knowing more about their child’s internet activity on an FCPS device can sign up to receive a weekly Parent Report from Lightspeed, our internet content filtering service. The report is a free service and will provide a list of the top sites the child visited that week. 

In order to strengthen family engagement, please help promote this service with your school community. Sample messaging is provided on the Lightspeed Classroom Employee HUB page, under Community Resources.

FCPS Fiscal Year 2026 Budget Public Hearing

The School Board will hold a public hearing on final budget adjustments on Tuesday, May 13, at 6 p.m. Sign up to speak by Monday, May 12, at 4:30 p.m.

Phase 2 Community Boundary Review Meetings

Families, staff, and community members will soon be able to explore and visualize potential boundary scenarios using a customized Boundary Explorer Tool. The tool will be accessible from the FCPS website. You are also invited to participate in another series of community meetings in order to review and reflect on the initial draft scenarios before the start of summer break.

Each meeting will be hybrid, meaning that you may attend in person or via Zoom. Childcare for in-person participants and language interpretation/translation for all participants will be available as needed. Registration links will be shared soon. Another round of community meetings will be held in the fall.

Interest Meeting for New Korean Dual Language Immersion Program

Families are invited to learn more about a new Korean Dual Language Immersion opportunity in Fairfax County. Register to attend the informational community meeting, which will take place on Wednesday, May 21, at 6:30 p.m., at Halley Elementary School. It will also be available virtually.

The meeting will include information from School Board members and current Korean Immersion teachers. Attendees can learn more about dual language immersion and next steps to apply for the program. They will also be invited to provide feedback.
