HMES 6th grade bus patrol waits with kindergarteners for the school bus

Thank you to our safety patrols for helping to keep our kindergarten and preschool bus riders safe!

A Message from Principal Crews

I continue to enjoy our Hollin Meadows community. I am beyond thankful for our continued partnership with our families. These past couple of weeks our upper grade Hornets have been working hard on end of year SOL state testing. We have preliminary scores that we should all be proud of. Our students have shown growth so far in all areas, but we are still waiting to finish testing. Once the new Virginia accreditation system is taken into consideration, I will share our school scores.

As we close out the school year, we are excited to vote for our new HMES PTA board. We really need our Hornet Community's input and participation when it comes to our PTA. Please email HollinMeadowsESPTA@gmail.com if you are interested in being part of our PTA board. We have fun plans for next school year and we look forward to your partnership.

Ms. Palma is now a member of the office team!

Please join me in welcoming Ms. Angie Palma who is our new HM Office Assistant. Ms. Palma is a long-time member of our Hornet school community. She is excited to join our office team, and we are lucky to have her!

I also want to inform our school community that our dear Lisa Blake has accepted an assistant principal position at a different school for the 25-26 school year. We are excited for her new chapter and we will miss her. AP Lisa Blake has written a farewell statement below. In terms of our school’s next steps, we are in the process of reviewing applications and plan to have interviews soon.

Dear Hollin Meadows Elementary School Families,

It is with a mix of gratitude and excitement that I write to you today. After three truly rewarding years serving as your Assistant Principal, I have accepted a new position as Assistant Principal at Rose Hill Elementary School.

This decision was not made lightly. Rose Hill presents some wonderful growth opportunities for me as I begin to consider the possibility of a principalship in the future.

My time here at Hollin Meadows has been filled with immense learning and, most importantly, love. The strong relationships I've built with our incredible staff, our amazing students, and each of you have made this a deeply difficult choice. Your warm smiles, the joy of your children, and your unwavering support are just a few of the many reasons why I adore this job.

Thank you for being such an integral part of my team as we have cheered on your students, celebrated their successes, and navigated challenges together. I will miss our Hollin Meadows Hornets so very much, but I am leaving with a heartful of memories and so many special connections!

Much love,

Ms. Blake

HMES students enjoy some library books at dismissal.

Nothing makes Mrs. Tucker happier than seeing students enjoying a good book! These students read their library books while waiting for their rides home.

On May 2nd and 3rd, Hollin Meadows Strings and Band students participated in the District 10 Solo and Ensemble Festival. They practiced either a solo, duet, or trio and performed in front of a judge to receive a rating.  All received the highest ratings, either a Superior or Excellent. Congratulations to this talented group of musicians!

We will have a Performing Arts Concert featuring the student performances from orchestra, band, and chorus on Thursday, May 29. The concert begins at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. Come and enjoy the music and support our student performers!

If you have questions about these tests, please visit the FCPS SOL Tests in Elementary and Middle Schools webpage or reach out to Lisa Blake, our SOL School Testing Coordinator, at 703-718-8300.

Phase 2 Community Boundary Review Meetings

Families, staff, and community members can explore and visualize potential boundary scenarios using a customized Boundary Explorer Tool. The tool will be accessible from the FCPS website. You are also invited to participate in another series of community meetings in order to review and reflect on the initial draft scenarios before the start of summer break:

Friday, June 6, 6:30–8 p.m., Glasgow Middle School

Each meeting will be hybrid, meaning that you may attend in person or via Zoom. Childcare for in-person participants and language interpretation/translation for all participants will be available as needed. Registration links will be shared soon. Another round of community meetings will be held in the fall.

Visit FCPS’ Comprehensive Boundary Review page for more information.
