Thank you to all the parents who helped our PTA make our teachers and staff know they are appreciated at Lemon Road! Last week we received breakfasts, lunches, ice cream, coffee, and gifts at school.
Our second graders went on their second field trip this year to Riverbend Park. Our students and staff are grateful for the support our PTA provides enriching and extending the experiences in the classroom. Thank you Lemon Road PTA!
We held a very successful bike, walk, and roll to school day! Thank you to everyone who participated. Starting your day this way decreases congestion in the community, reduces pollutions, and encourages healthy habits for our students.
We are one month away from the end of the school year! There will be may exciting and special events for students in each grade. Mark your calendars.
Best of luck to our 3rd - 6th graders on their SOL this week and read below to hear how you can advocate for elementary school needs with the proposed FCPS budget.
- Help us plan for next year's class sizes and number of teachers per grade by clicking this link.
- Students in grades 3 - 6 are biking for the next few weeks in PE. Send in their helmet and bike (either or both) to support their PE instruction!
- Visit the Lightspeed Parent Report page on the FCPS website to sign up to receive a report of your child's online activity.
- Open FCPS ParentVue to view your child's third quarter progress report.
- All visitors must bring and scan a government-issued photo ID each time they visit school. Arrive early to events to ensure time for parking and check in.
- Check out the breakfast and lunch menu.
- Have your child log into Clever from Lemon Road Student Links to access Lexia and ST Math from home to maintain academic progress. Students can log into Varsity Tutors through Schoology for free tutoring services.

On Thursday, Dr. Reid presented an updated budget to the school board. There is currently a $121M gap between what the Board of Supervisors approved to transfer and what was asked for by FCPS. This budget, if passed as presented, will impact Lemon Road and the services and supports we can provide - hitting hardest at the elementary level.
In order to meet the proposed budget, there are cuts that directly impact our Lemon Road staff to include the following:
- Elementary Special Education Department Chair reduced from full-time to half-time
- Elementary Advanced Academic Resource Teacher reduced from full-time to half-time
- Elementary Classroom Monitors eliminated or reduced – 4 positions at Lemon Road removed to include our STEAM program
- Staffing formula adjustments leading to increased class sizes in all grades
Page one of this document summarizes the cuts.
FCPS Fiscal Year 2026 Budget Public Hearing: Tuesday, May 13th, 6 p.m.
The School Board will hold a public hearing on final budget adjustments on Tuesday. Sign up to speak by Monday, May 12th, at 4:30 p.m. as the proposed cuts shared will significantly impact elementary schools. I invite all community members to engage in this process and to share your opinions with your elected school board members.
The Board of Supervisors will vote on their final budget transfer decision on Tuesday (see the FCPS Budget site). The emails of each of the members of the Board of Supervisors can be found here. It is not too late to make your voice heard about the impact
On Thursday, all our 3rd - 6th grade students will take an SOL test. Grade 5 students will take their reading SOL while grades 3, 4, and 6 will take reading. Remember to give your child a full breakfast and send them to school with layers to set them up for success.

Every current 3rd - 5th grader must select their music course for next year. Students in grade 4 have the opportunity to choose full-time general music or play an instrument while also participating in general music. Students in grade 5 & 6 choose general music, band, or strings. As a students' schedule will be created around their preference, this is a full year commitment and changes cannot be made once school starts. General music, band, and strings are graded courses that appear on a students quarterly progress report. Click here to make your child's selection or next year no later than June 9.
Students in grades 5 & 6 may also choose to participate in chorus. Chorus is not a replacement for band, strings, or general music and is in addition to other graded music classes.
The May PTA Meeting is on May 14th at 7pm. This meeting is in person at the school and will feature Lemon Road Alumni and the Principals of Longfellow & Kilmer discussing the transition to Middle School, PTA business updates, and end of year business. All are welcome to attend. Light snacks and limited child care for school aged children will be provided.
Thank you to everyone who supported our Staff Appreciation Week! Our teachers & staff really are superheros and it was fun to treat them like one last week!
