Dear Poplar Tree Families,
Today our staff and students had fun dressing up like each other! Thanks to everyone who got into the spirit and used their Creative & Critical Thinking skills with their outfit choices! Check out "Where in the School is Ms. Andujar" below as we visit the classroom of a teacher who truly embraced this spirit day!
We want to thank the PTA and all of our families for showing appreciation for our amazing staff this week! Each day our staff was spoiled with breakfast, snacks, candy, coffee, or lunch! It was lovely to see so many bouquets of flowers, handmade cards, and personalized gifts being given out! We are so lucky to be a part of such a wonderful and supportive school community!!!!
In the craziness of the world around us, we are reminded of what's most important - we love our students, our staff rocks, and great things happen everyday!

🎓Class of 2025 Grad Walk!🎓
We are looking forward to welcoming back all our PTES alumni on Monday, June 9 for our annual grad walk! Students should arrive in the front for photos by 9:45. The walk will begin at 10:00.
💻Chromebook TikTok Challenge🖇️
We are aware of a recent TikTok trend that challenges students to physically damage their school-issued Chromebooks. This “Chromebook Challenge” encourages students to purposefully cause their devices to short out or catch fire by jamming metal/lead into the charging or USB port or stabbing the battery. Students might think that this behavior is a harmless joke or prank, but it’s dangerous and we are asking for your help in preventing it here in FCPS.
Although our students do not yet have Chromebooks here at Poplar Tree, middle and high school students in FCPS do. Next year, some of our students in elementary school will also have Chromebooks. Please speak to your students about the consequences of this TikTok challenge, which include:
- Fire, injury, and damage to FCPS property.
- Lost access to schoolwork and online resources.
- Disciplinary measures as outlined in our Student Rights and Responsibilities handbook.
Please also note that families may be responsible for the repair or replacement costs for student-issued devices that are deliberately damaged.
We appreciate your partnership in keeping our students and schools safe!
Poplar Tree Field Day
Our Poplar Tree Field Day will be Friday, May 30, 2025. Please see the flyer for specific times for each grade level. We will need volunteers to make the day successful! All students will be trained in the events so you do not have to teach the games. Volunteers will help monitor safety and keep the station running smoothly. Poplar Tree Adapted Field Day
Students participating in our self-contained Adapted PE classes will be engaging in stations with their PE Pals as part of a culminating activity on Wednesday, June 4. They will then be transitioning out to the playground to continue the fun.
If you would like to join your child and their classroom teachers to continue the fun, please plan to head to the playground from 1:45-2:15pm. You will need to check in at the front office before the event. Please email Kirsten Birge at KEbirge@fcps.edu by May 30th if you are planning to join!

Please note: on Wednesday, May 14 there will be a change in our lunch schedule. 6th grade will eat lunch and 12:30 pm on those days and 3rd grade will eat lunch at 1:05 pm. Kindergarten classes will either eat in their classrooms or at 1:05 pm. Check with your child's teacher if you were planning to join your child for lunch on either of those days!
We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our PTA Nominating Committee for their thoughtful work in identifying and recruiting new leadership for the upcoming school year. Your time, effort, and care in building a strong slate of candidates is deeply appreciated!

👟 Running Club K - 6th Grade 👟
It’s time to get your running and walking shoes on! We are continuing the before-school Running/Walking Club for all student grades 1-6. If a Kindergartener wants to join, please have a parent come and run or walk too. Best of all, it’s FREE! We will need at least 3 parents present each Thursday to ensure the safety of all of the children. Bring your mug of coffee and socialize as you help cross off a Panther Paw for each lap run!
