Dear Franklin Sherman ES Parents/Guardians,
Thank you for a fantastic teacher appreciation week last week! Franklin Sherman is lucky to have such a wonderful community and we are so fortunate to have such strong engagement.
I encourage you all to pay attention to the recent budget updates I sent yesterday and encourage you to make sure your voice is heard.
The proposed changes include the following:
- Elementary Special Education Lead position reduced from full-time to half-time
- Advanced Academic Resource Teacher position reduced from full-time to half-time
- Classroom monitors (providing adequate planning) – 3 positions at Franklin Sherman removed
- Staffing formula adjustments (increased class sizes)
The School Board will hold a public hearing on final budget adjustments on Tuesday. Sign up to speak by Monday, May 12th, at 4:30 p.m. Please consider speaking at the hearing, as the proposed cuts shared will significantly impact Franklin Sherman. I invite all community members to engage in this process and to share your opinions with your elected school board members.
Sincerely,
Farris Thomas Principal Franklin Sherman ES

Franklin Sherman reminds families that Attendance Matters. As the year is coming to a close, we appreciate you helping encourage strong student attendance through the very last day! Every day counts and student attendance is a factor in determining our annual accreditation. You can check your student's current absenteeism rate on ParentVue.
We know students get sick and appreciate you keeping them home when they are not well. We are addressing absences that are not due to student illness in our reminders.

Additional immunizations are required for students entering 7th and 12th grades.
- All students entering 7th grade are required to receive one dose of each of the following immunizations prior to the beginning of school: Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis booster (Tdap), Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY), and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.
- To meet the Tdap requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 7 or older.
- To meet the MenACWY requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 10 or older.
- As a parent/guardian, you may decide that your child not receive the HPV vaccination. The school does not require documentation if a parent/guardian elects for their student not to receive the HPV vaccination.
- All students entering 12th grade are to receive one dose of Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) prior to the beginning of school.
- To meet the MenACWY 12th grade requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 16 or older.
Please consider getting your child’s immunizations early so that they can attend school in the fall. Summer is a busy time for families and healthcare providers. As long as your child meets the age requirements listed above, they can be immunized at any time. Additional resources are available on the FCPS Immunization Resources webpage and the Fairfax County Health Department.
