A message from Principal Steven McFarlane

Kilmer Community,

The PTA went above and beyond this week for Staff Appreciation Week, and on behalf of all the Kilmer staff, THANK YOU! Between the soda bar, Anita’s burritos, Kona Ice, and more, we are grateful for the time, energy, and money you put into showing your appreciation.

Thank you to Danielle Sweet and Gaby Chaves for being the faculty advisors for National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) this year. Last night, Kilmer inducted 155 8th grade students into NJHS. Before the ceremony, there was a gallery walk where students presented their service-learning projects to families and staff members. It’s a great reminder of the many students we have in this building that not only take their academics seriously, but service to their community as well. The future is bright!

Finally, students got off to a strong start with our Reading SOLs on Wednesday. Next week students will take their Math SOLs, and the 8th graders will take the Science SOL.

Have a wonderful weekend and as always, reach out with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Steven McFarlane

Principal

Positive Referrals

Here are just a few of the Positive Referrals received by our Kilmer Cougars from staff members this week!

Jacob C.O. - Thank you for your constant support in encouraging a caring community in our classroom! The words you use and how you act really show everyone how to do better!

Jeremiah Y. - Being a hard-working student, always being genuinely kind to his teachers and peers, and being a role model for his classmates for his academic achievements and overall character.

Shirley W. - Always works hard and listens very carefully and respectfully to her peers in class.

Olivia M. - Olivia took initiative and helped out a classmate who was having a hard time on his warm up. Without asking, she pulled up a chair and walked him through the activity. She was encouraging, supportive, and helpful. She is a great role model in the classroom. Thank you, Olivia!!!

Angelina C. - Angelina shows up to class everyday ready to learn and with a positive attitude.  She's very respectful of her classmates and teachers, is very responsible.  Thanks for being a great student and making History class a fun and friendly place!
