TLES Families,
We had a wonderful first week in May at TLES as we celebrated Staff Appreciation Week! Thank you to our PTA for organizing breakfast on Monday, flowers on Wednesday and Coffee & Goodies on Friday. Our staff had a special treat each day this past week and we couldn't have done it without the support of the PTA. On Tuesday, admin hired the Captain Cookie Dessert Food Truck and we had thank-you notes from students and Virginia Lottery Scratchers for staff on Thursday. All in all - it was a perfect week of full of treats! Thanks again to our TLES PTA as well as parent volunteers for helping this week-long celebration come to life! We also want to wish a Happy Mother's Day to all the moms in our community! We hope you enjoy a relaxing Mother's Day and feel appreciated for all you do!
The School Board will hold a public hearing on final budget adjustments on Tuesday, May 13th, at 6 p.m. Sign up to speak by Monday, May 12th, at 4:30 p.m. Please consider speaking at the hearing, as the proposed cuts significantly impact elementary schools. There is a $121 M gap between what the Board of Supervisors approved to transfer and what was requested by FCPS. You can also reach out to the school board members.
In order to meet the proposed budget, there are line items that directly impact TLES and all elementary schools. The proposed changes for elementary schools include the following:
- Staffing formula adjustments (class sizes),
- Classroom monitors (providing adequate planning),
- Elementary special education leads position impacted, and
- Advanced academic resource teachers position impacted.

🍧K-2 Popsicle Playdate
Please join us for a fun spring play date for Kindergarten-2nd graders on May 16 @ 4-6pm on the TLES playground hosted by the Family Engagement Committee. We invite you to participate in a series of community meetings in order to review and reflect on the initial draft scenarios before the start of summer break. Another round of community meetings will be held in the fall.
As part of these community meetings, families, staff, and community members will be able to explore and visualize potential boundary scenarios using a customized Boundary Explorer Tool. The tool will also be accessible from our website.

25-26 PTA Board Positions Up for Vote
Nominations are now open for various roles that are up for vote at our next meeting on May 19th. Our board is composed of individuals (just like you) who donate whatever time they can toward efforts that help support TLES teachers, families, and students. Positions are up for vote every 2 years. Most of us balance other jobs, families, and full lives; we're grateful for any time folks are willing to contribute. Interested in learning more, or being considered for the vote?
