A Message from Principal Crews
Hornet Community,
One of my favorite weeks is coming up because we get to celebrate and think our amazing Hornet Staff! You might see this coming week called "Teacher Appreciation Week," but we intentionally called it "Staff Appreciation Week" because everyone at Hollin Meadows, regardless of their position, is deeply involved in the teaching of our students. Since July, I've been witness to an outstanding team that goes above and beyond to make sure our students are cared for and learning at high levels. Our staff is committed to the success of each student whether it's about making sure our space is clean, that lessons are engaging, that meals are prepared and that everything is organized. Our PTA has set up a calendar of events for families to show their appreciation. If you're looking for a way to show your gratitude, I invite you to check out the calendar below.
As always, thank you for your partnership with us in your child's education at Hollin Meadows!
Sincerely,
Jasibi Crews
Hollin Meadows participates in the Dads of Great Students WATCH D.O.G.S.® program. We start off by introducing our WATCH D.O.G.S. on the morning news before they begin their day of helping at our school.
SOL Testing Dates at Hollin Meadows
The remaining dates for this year’s SOL tests are listed below. Please avoid scheduling appointments or trips on these days so that your child can test on the same day as their peers. This helps ensure students do their best. The tests are untimed and will begin shortly after arrival. Students who arrive late may have to take the SOL on another day.
If you have questions about these tests, please visit the FCPS SOL Tests in Elementary and Middle Schools webpage or reach out to Lisa Lin, our SOL School Testing Coordinator, at 703-718-8300.

📵No Cell Phone/Smart Watches Policy
Just a reminder that students may not use their cell phones / smart watches during school hours. Devices should either be in "airplane" mode or turned off and placed in backpacks during the hours of 8:05 a.m. and 3:05 p.m. Students should not be texting their families and/or friends during the school day. We ask that parents also not text or call their child during the school day.
In case of illness, students need to be seen in the health room and the health room aide or public health nurse will call you if your child needs to be taken home.
If you need to reach your child during the school day, please contact the main office at 703-718-8300. The office staff will send your message to your child.
You can review the FCPS policy by grade level here.
Ms. Crews shares the names of our Hornets of the Month on the morning news, and then gives the students their certificates and medals.

🎒Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow. We All Belong Here!
In FCPS, we all belong. From the first day of school, to the last day of school, every child matters. If your student is having a hard time finishing the year strong and attending school, please contact a trusted adult at our school — a teacher, counselor, or administrator. Visit FCPS’ website for more attendance resources.
Excellence at a Crossroads: FCPS Budget Update
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors will begin finalizing the budget on Tuesday, May 6. The current advertised budget underfunds FCPS by $150 million.
Without new revenue, such as the meals tax (adding just $2-3 to an average dining bill for a family of four), FCPS will face significant cuts.
What Is at Risk?
Go to fcps.edu/crossroads to see examples of where FCPS exceeds minimum state standards.
🩹 Required Immunizations for Rising 7th and 12th Graders
Additional immunizations are required for students entering 7th and 12th grades.
- All students entering 7th grade are required to receive one dose of each of the following immunizations prior to the beginning of school: Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis booster (Tdap), Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY), and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.
- To meet the Tdap requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 7 or older.
- To meet the MenACWY requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 10 or older.
- As a parent/guardian, you may decide that your child not receive the HPV vaccination. The school does not require documentation if a parent/guardian elects for their student not to receive the HPV vaccination.
- All students entering 12th grade are to receive one dose of Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) prior to the beginning of school.
- To meet the MenACWY 12th grade requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 16 or older.
Please consider getting your child’s immunizations early so that they can attend school in the fall. Summer is a busy time for families and healthcare providers. As long as your child meets the age requirements listed above, they can be immunized at any time. Additional resources are available on the FCPS Immunization Resources webpage and the Fairfax County Health Department.
