Centreville Students, Families, and Community,
We are excited to celebrate Staff Appreciation Week this week! I find myself reflecting on the truth that one week simply isn’t enough time to fully recognize the incredible work our educators and staff do each day. The dedication of the Centreville High School staff goes far beyond classroom instruction. Whether it’s crafting high-quality learning experiences, building meaningful relationships with students, or offering daily support and encouragement, our staff consistently show up with heart, expertise, and a deep commitment to student success. They collaborate, innovate, and lead in ways that strengthen not just our school, but our entire community. It is a privilege to witness their care and professionalism in action. If your family would like to show appreciation, please consider making a donation through the PTSA. Your support helps provide special treats and meaningful recognition for our amazing staff.
We want to warmly encourage all parents and guardians to attend our upcoming PTSA meeting on Monday, May 12 at 7:00PM. Your participation is more important than ever. The PTSA is currently facing a critical challenge: we need new officers for the 2025–2026 school year. Without at least a President and a Treasurer in place, we risk having to pause PTSA operations next year. This would mean losing valuable programs such as the All Night Grad Party, PTSA Scholarships, and Teacher Appreciation events.
So far, we haven’t received enough volunteers to fill the necessary roles. If you’ve ever considered getting involved—even in a small way—now is the time. If you’re curious about what’s involved or how much time it takes, please don’t hesitate to reach out to President Jennifer Flanigan at president@cvhsptsa.org or Treasurer Sean Cosden at treasurer@cvhsptsa.org.
Even better, come to the meeting and chat with the current Board in person. Your support can make all the difference!
Thank you and Go Wildcats!

Congratulations to our three music students who represented CVHS at All-Virginia Chorus and Band April 24-26! Ryan Knutti and Madelyn Regan sang in the SATB Choir, and Daniel Ahn played in the Concert Band. These three talented students spent three days in Richmond, rehearsing with renowned guest conductors and other top musicians from around the state. The weekend culminated with fantastic concerts on Saturday! All-VA is very competitive, so we’re extremely proud of these students for making it and getting the chance to participate. Honorable mention goes to our two choir alternates, Jackson Sobel and Annie Chun. Congrats again!

Incredible Weekend for Xanadu: Congratulations to Mr. McGee and the entire cast and crew of Xanadu for an incredible weekend! The acting, singing, and set design were amazing! Students Shine in AP Seminar Presentations: Students in our AP Seminar course completed the second of two performance tasks for the course. Students are tasked with writing a 2000 word individual, research-based argument, delivering a 6-8 minute presentation, and participating in an oral defense of questions from their instructor. This is the first of two courses needed for students to obtain the AP Capstone Diploma. We are proud of all of the students hard work throughout the school year!

Excellence at a Crossroads: FCPS Budget Update: The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors will begin finalizing the budget on Tuesday, May 6. The current advertised budget underfunds FCPS by $150 million.
Without new revenue, such as the meals tax (adding just $2-3 to an average dining bill for a family of four), FCPS will face significant cuts.
What Is at Risk?
Go to fcps.edu/crossroads to see examples of where FCPS exceeds minimum state standards.
Required Immunizations for Rising 7th and 12th Graders: Additional immunizations are required for students entering 7th and 12th grades:
- All students entering 7th grade are required to receive one dose of each of the following immunizations prior to the beginning of school: Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis booster (Tdap), Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY), and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.
- To meet the Tdap requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 7 or older.
- To meet the MenACWY requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 10 or older.
- As a parent/guardian, you may decide that your child not receive the HPV vaccination. The school does not require documentation if a parent/guardian elects for their student not to receive the HPV vaccination.
- All students entering 12th grade are to receive one dose of Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) prior to the beginning of school.
- To meet the MenACWY 12th grade requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 16 or older.
Please consider getting your child’s immunizations early so that they can attend school in the fall. Summer is a busy time for families and health care providers. As long as your child meets the age requirements listed above, they can be immunized at any time. Additional resources are available on the FCPS Immunization Resources webpage and the Fairfax County Health Department.
Share Feedback With County Health Department on School Health Services: The Fairfax County Health Department and Fairfax County Public Schools School Health Services invite parents/caregivers of FCPS students to participate in a survey on satisfaction with school health room services. The survey takes about five minutes to complete and will be open until Monday, May 5.
Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow. We All Belong Here!: In FCPS, we all belong. From the first day of school, to the last day of school, every child matters. If your student is having a hard time finishing the year strong and attending school, please contact a trusted adult at our school — a teacher, counselor, or administrator. Visit FCPS’ website for more attendance resources.
Dismissal Schedule for the Last Day of School: On the last day of school, Wednesday, June 11, school will be dismissed at 10:10AM.

New Physical Form for Athletics: A new law that becomes effective on July 1, 2025, requires students to submit to the school principal or designee a signed Preparticipation Physical Evaluation form completely filled in and properly signed, attesting that the student has received a physical examination, was found to be physically fit for athletic competition no more than 14 calendar months prior to the date on which the health care official signed the report, and that the student’s parents consent to the student’s participation.
The new physical form can be found here. We continue to encourage students and families to get their annual physicals in the months of May, June, and July, as this will ensure students’ physicals are valid through all seasons of the following school year.
