Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week is May 5 - 9!

Teacher and staff appreciation week

This week, join us in saying thank you and celebrating our amazing teachers and staff for all they do each day for our students!  The Parklawn PTA will be providing treats to staff this week to thank them for their tireless efforts to teach, nurture, and support students and their families. Students can also show their appreciation:

Monday: Bring or draw a picture of a flower to give your teachers

Tuesday: Give a high-five to all the teachers and staff you see

Wednesday: Write adjectives describing your teacher to make a poem —use this worksheet from the National PTA to get started!

Thursday: Draw a picture of you and your teacher in class

Friday: Write a thank you note for a teacher or staff member who has helped you

Monthly Family Market: May 8

Come visit Parklawn’s May Family Market  from 5-7 pm! We’re partnering with the @Capital Area Food Bank to offer fresh produce and dry goods to members of the Parklawn school community, free of charge. Groceries are available on a first‑come first‑serve basis. This is our last market of the school year! We'll see you there!

Superintendent's Boundary Review Advisory Committee Wants to Hear from You!

We are grateful for the service of the Justice Pyramid community members who volunteered to participate in the Boundary Review Advisory Committee (BRAC). These representatives serve to raise the issues important to us. Our representatives, Aaron Alford (Parklawn) and Ann-Marie Ward (Justice) will be at Parklawn May 8 at 4 pm, the same day as our Monthly Market. You are welcome to join them to learn more about this process and share your feedback. You may also use the pyramid email address listed below to share your feedback.

Class Placement 2025-2026

We are already working on our plans for the 2025-2026 school year!  Class placements are an essential component of learning and building community. If you have information that you would like us to consider as we determine placements, please share your input by answering a few questions completing the form at the following link: 2025-2056 Class Placement Input Form know that a good teacher-student match and a productive mix of children are ingredients for success, and we carefully consider each child’s strengths and needs during this process. Please do not request specific teachers, as this does not take into account the many variables we must take into consideration. It is far more valuable to share particular academic or behavioral information.

Completion of this form is optional.  If you would like to provide input, you may use this online form by May 21, 2025. This is a hard deadline. Please know that input from forms turned in over the summer are difficult to honor since the grouping process has already started. Please fill out one form per child. Thank you! We know that a good teacher-student match and a productive mix of children are ingredients for success, and we carefully consider each child’s strengths and needs during this process. Please do not request specific teachers, as this does not take into account the many variables we must take into consideration. It is far more valuable to share particular academic or behavioral information.

Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow. We All Belong Here!

In FCPS, we all belong. From the first day of school, to the last day of school, every child matters. If your student is having a hard time finishing the year strong and attending school, please contact a trusted adult at our school — a teacher, counselor, or administrator. Visit FCPS’ website for more attendance resources.

Message from the Parklawn PTA

PTA

Make sure you grab dinner at Chipotle (6242 Little River Turnpike) on Tuesday May 6th between 4pm and 8pm. 25% of your order will go directly to the PTA so that we can provide resources and great events for you! A flyer was sent home in your child’s Tuesday folder last week.

Our next PTA Meeting will be Thursday, May 15, at 5pm in the library. We’ll be holding elections for two PTA officer positions: Vice President and Secretary.

- The Vice President leads PTA meetings if the President is not available and has a flexible role in helping to plan different types of events.

- The Secretary is responsible for taking minutes and recording all business at PTA meetings, including General meetings and Board of Director meetings.

All PTA members are eligible to run for office and vote for officers. If you are interested in learning more about or running for any of the open positions, please email current president Rayne Yates at parklawnpta@gmail.com.
