A colorful and heartfelt thank you to our amazing PTA for showering our staff with love during our rainbow-themed "Staff Appreciation Week!" 🌈✨ Every detail—from the bright decorations to the thoughtful treats—brought so much joy to our team. We are grateful for your creativity, generosity, and support!
#WeLoveOurPTA
Dear CRES Community,
We want to share that the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) testing season is well underway at Centre Ridge Elementary. These state-mandated assessments are given to students in grades 3 through 6 and measure their understanding in core academic areas such as reading, math, and science.
While the SOLs represent just one measure of academic progress, they provide valuable information that helps us reflect on instruction and ensure we are meeting the needs of all students. Success on these assessments is not built overnight—it begins in the earliest grades. Every school day, across all grade levels, plays an important role in building the skills and knowledge our students need to thrive.
At Centre Ridge, we do not define our students by a single test, but we are proud of their hard work and want to support strong outcomes for every learner. Thank you for helping us by making sure your child is present, on time, and ready to learn each day. Your partnership truly matters.
Warmly,
Dr. Hertzberg, Ms. Baugh, Ms. Sutton, Ms. Helmer, and Ms. Ford

FCPS News Updates
🐻It’s Kindergarten Registration Time!
Attending kindergarten provides children with an opportunity to learn and practice the essential social, emotional, problem-solving, and self-regulation skills they will use throughout their lives. Fairfax County public schools typically conduct kindergarten registration events, including orientation, between January and April. Eligible children can also be registered throughout the summer, but registering your child early helps us prepare and ensure we have the teachers and resources needed on the first day of school.
Families should prepare for registration by gathering documents and completing forms on the FCPS kindergarten registration webpage. FCPS offers support and resources for all families to help with registration and the transition to kindergarten. For support in other languages, visit the kindergarten registration webpage.
✨ A strong start is Goal 1 of the 2023-30 Strategic Plan.

🩹 Required Immunizations for Rising 7th and 12th Graders
Additional immunizations are required for students entering 7th and 12th grades:
- All students entering 7th grade are required to receive one dose of each of the following immunizations prior to the beginning of school: Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis booster (Tdap), Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY), and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.
- To meet the Tdap requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 7 or older.
- To meet the MenACWY requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 10 or older.
- As a parent/guardian, you may decide that your child not receive the HPV vaccination. The school does not require documentation if a parent/guardian elects for their student not to receive the HPV vaccination.
- All students entering 12th grade are to receive one dose of Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) prior to the beginning of school.
- To meet the MenACWY 12th grade requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 16 or older.
Please consider getting your child’s immunizations early so that they can attend school in the fall. Summer is a busy time for families and health care providers. As long as your child meets the age requirements listed above, they can be immunized at any time. Additional resources are available on the FCPS Immunization Resources webpage and the Fairfax County Health Department.
