Dear Fairview Families,
It has been a fantastic week at Fairview! Our students are hard at work preparing for upcoming assessments and are getting excited for the ABC Countdown—a beloved Fairview tradition celebrating the last 26 days of school. Looking ahead, we’re thrilled to kick off Staff Appreciation Week, a time to recognize the incredible educators and support staff who make Fairview such a special place to learn and grow. Thank you for being a part of our vibrant school community!
Have a wonderful weekend!

ABC Countdown!
In July 2024, the Fairfax County School Board voted to begin a review and update of the county’s school boundary policy. As part of this initiative, the Board established the Superintendent's Boundary Advisory Committee, which includes parents, caregivers, and community members from each of FCPS’ 24 high school pyramids. The committee also includes school-based and division administrators, teachers, operational staff, and other community representatives.
The committee has been actively meeting throughout 2024 and 2025 to explore ways to better align school boundaries with changing geographic and demographic needs.
Representing the Robinson Pyramid on the committee is Sunnie Salvia, a Fairview and Robinson parent with 4 children: 5th grade, 7th grade, and 10th grade.
At its most recent meeting, the committee discussed the topic of “split-feeder” elementary schools—schools that feed into more than one middle school. While Fairview is not a split-feeder school, there are current discussions regarding adjusting the Union Mill Elementary boundary that could potentially impact Fairview families.
We encourage you to visit the FCPS website to review the meeting agenda, presentation slides, and related materials - paying particular attention to the slide with proposed changes for Fairview (specifically related to the Martin’s Landing neighborhood-slide18).
If you have feedback on the proposed changes affecting Fairview, please reach out to Sunnie at fcpsboundary.robinson.2@gmail.com with your comments or concerns.
Please Note: Any proposals discussed by the Advisory Committee are not final and have not been approved or rejected by the School Board. The Advisory Committee’s work will continue through January 2026, so it is unlikely that any changes impacting Fairview will take effect in the upcoming school year.
May 2 is School Lunch Hero Day, and we want to take a moment to shower our AMAZING lunch staff with appreciation for everything they do. You are the heart and soul of our cafeteria, serving up not just nutritious meals, but also smiles and kindness every single day.
Thank you for your hard work, your dedication, and your commitment to our students' well-being. You are more than just lunch providers; you are an essential part of the Fairview Elementary family. Happy School Lunch Hero Day! 🎉🍎🥪

Gr 3-6 Lightspeed Classroom
As part of our commitment to creating a safe and focused learning environment for our students, our school uses a classroom management tool that helps teachers better connect with student devices during classes. This tool provides teachers with a number of helpful features:
- Easily view student screens in real time from the teacher console to see which students may need guidance or support.
- Focus student attention on a particular website on their device to minimize distractions.
- Pause student access to the internet to focus on other classroom tasks.
We believe this classroom management tool allows us to maximize class time to support your student’s learning while at school. Please note that student devices are not monitored outside of school hours. The regular filters remain in place on school devices, but once they are home, teachers cannot monitor students. As parents, we would like to encourage you to sign up for your own Lightspeed reports, which will allow you to see how your child is spending time on the computer during and after school hours.

Excellence at a Crossroads: FCPS Budget Update
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors will begin finalizing the budget on Tuesday, May 6. The current advertised budget underfunds FCPS by $150 million.
Without new revenue, such as the meals tax (adding just $2-3 to an average dining bill for a family of four), FCPS will face significant cuts.
What Is at Risk?
Go to fcps.edu/crossroads to see examples of where FCPS exceeds minimum state standards.
🩹 Required Immunizations for Rising 7th and 12th Graders
Additional immunizations are required for students entering 7th and 12th grades:
- All students entering 7th grade are required to receive one dose of each of the following immunizations prior to the beginning of school: Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis booster (Tdap), Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY), and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.
- To meet the Tdap requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 7 or older.
- To meet the MenACWY requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 10 or older.
- As a parent/guardian, you may decide that your child not receive the HPV vaccination. The school does not require documentation if a parent/guardian elects for their student not to receive the HPV vaccination.
- All students entering 12th grade are to receive one dose of Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) prior to the beginning of school.
- To meet the MenACWY 12th grade requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 16 or older.
Please consider getting your child’s immunizations early so that they can attend school in the fall. Summer is a busy time for families and health care providers. As long as your child meets the age requirements listed above, they can be immunized at any time. Additional resources are available on the FCPS Immunization Resources webpage and the Fairfax County Health Department.
