Dear London Towne Family,
What a fantastic week we had! The energy at our last pep rally was incredible. It was so much fun to come together and celebrate! We spent some time discussing the impact of our actions and the importance of practicing self-control. It's so important to stop and think before we act, asking ourselves if what we're about to do will make things better or worse. We are confident that during these last 5 weeks of school, our Lions will continue to practice self-control.
And how about the first-ever "Lion Games?!" It was a blast watching Ulysses the Unicorn, Kandy the Koala, and Shane the Shark go head-to-head with our very own Leo the Lion in some seriously competitive rounds of Simon Says, the Egg Relay, and Musical Chairs. What a fun way to build school spirit! A huge thank you to our amazing staff volunteers who made this special event possible. We truly have the best team here at The Towne!
Looking ahead, this next week is all about celebrating our incredible teachers and staff for Teacher and Staff Appreciation! We are so incredibly thankful for their dedication to the success of each and every one of our lions, and for the way they support one another. There truly is no place like The Towne!
Let's make sure to show our wonderful staff just how much we appreciate them. Even a simple handwritten note can go a long way in brightening their day. If you are interested in other ways to show your gratitude, there are opportunities to volunteer and/or donate listed below.
Have a wonderful rest of your weekend, and get ready for a week of appreciation!
Roaring with Towne Pride,
Warmly,
🦁 Shele Banford, Principal
🦁🦁 Lucy Zamora and Jordan Moore, Assistant Principals

2025-26 Lion Leaders Application Process |
📢 Current 5th Graders Invited to Apply for Lion Leaders Team
Mrs. Breslin, Mrs. Lanier, and Mrs. Sirota are beginning the process of selecting our 6th Grade Lion Leaders Team (combination of WLTS News Crew and Student Council) for next school year. We plan to select a team of 10-12 strong student leaders to meet daily, 8:05-8:45. These students may participate in a variety of leadership roles throughout the year: representing London Towne at community events, planning fundraisers and school spirit weeks, writing content for and producing our daily news show, and planning and implementing ways to improve our LTES learning environment.
Interested current 5th grade students must apply by Friday, May 16 at 3:05 p.m. by completing a red paper permission form (available at school) and this 2025-26 Lion Leaders Interest Form (students must be signed into their FCPS Google account). This form can also be accessed in the All Students Course in Schoology. Selections will be made based on qualifications, family and teacher recommendations, and an in-person interview during the school day. Depending on the number of interested applicants, students may be selected to participate for the entire year or a portion of the year.
We are excited for our Lion Leaders to lead by example, model Portrait of a Graduate attributes of Communicator, Collaborator, and Ethical and Global Citizen, and promote school-wide initiatives that help create a welcoming environment for all Lions! We are so excited to facilitate the growth of new Lion Leaders in the coming school year and anticipate these students having a wonderful year and a large impact on the Towne!

Immunization Requirements |
As required by the Code of Virginia, parents or legal guardians need to provide proof of immunizations for their child to attend public school. All students entering seventh grade are required to receive one dose of each of the following immunizations:
- Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis booster (Tdap) given at age 7 or older.
- Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) given at age 10 or older.
- A complete series of 2 doses of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.
- As a parent/guardian, you may decide that your child not receive the HPV vaccination. The school does not require documentation if a parent/guardian elects for their student not to receive the HPV vaccination.
ACTION REQUIRED: Please provide one of the following immunization documents to our Student Information Assistant (SIA)/Registrar, Carolyn Licastro, as soon as possible:
- An immunization record showing that your child has received at least one dose of each of the required immunizations listed above. Families can request immunization records free of charge through the Virginia Immunization Information System (VIIS), a statewide registry system. If your child was immunized outside Virginia, you can get records from those states’ systems.
- Submit your child’s immunization record through ParentVUE using the Online Verification/Update (OVU) Packet.
- A note from a healthcare provider stating the date the vaccination(s) was given.
- A healthcare provider’s written statement of a permanent or temporary medical exemption.
- A notarized Commonwealth of Virginia, Certificate of Religious Exemption.
Parents/guardians are encouraged to plan ahead by scheduling an appointment with their child’s health care provider now to avoid the rush this summer. If your child does not have a health care provider, please visit the FCPS Immunizations Resource page to find out where to get an immunization.
Please review the Virginia Department of Health Information Packet for more information on rising 7th grade immunization requirements.

Social/Emotional Screener Results |
Students in grades 3-12 took the SEL Screener during the month of March, providing information on their SEL skills such as achieving goals, understanding and managing emotions, establishing and maintaining relationships, and making responsible decisions. The screener also asks students how well their school community makes them feel valued, included, and supported.
Individual student SEL Screener results are available to families in the Documents section of SIS ParentVUE. For families who do not have an active ParentVUE account, results will be sent via postal mail.
For support in understanding your individual student’s results or for ideas on how to support them at home, please review the SEL Screener Results Family Guide or reach out to our school staff with any questions.

Cameras on School Bus Stop Arms |
🛑 Cameras Installed on School Bus Stop Arms
Cameras have been installed on the stop arms of 50 FCPS school buses. These cameras will be used to identify drivers who pass stopped school buses while children are entering and exiting the bus (called a “stop arm violation”).
Drivers have begun to receive warnings. After a 30-day warning period, citations will begin to be issued on Monday, May 12.
According to Virginia law, drivers must stop for stopped school buses with flashing red lights on and their stop signs extended. Motorists should stop when approaching from any direction, unless there is a barrier or median separating their lane from where the bus is stopped. They should remain stopped until everyone is clear, and the bus is moving.
We appreciate our law enforcement partners for working with FCPS to improve road safety and reduce accidents. Read more about the stop arm cameras and other ways FCPS works with our county partners to keep students safe on their way to and from school.

National School Nurse Day is Wednesday, May 7. It is a day to recognize the many contributions that school nurses make to student health and learning.
FCPS appreciates the role of School Public Health Nurses (PHNs) for their contribution to the health and welfare of all our students. Professional school nurses support the needs of students through their delivery of healthcare, contributions to local school communities, and promotion of safety, prevention, and wellness throughout the year. They are advocates who bridge healthcare and education by supporting student health and readiness to learn. School nurses are essential to our community and work tirelessly to make a positive impact in the lives of their students.
Please join us in thanking our Public Health Nurse, Taylor Paul, and her Clinic Aide, Crystal Perkins, for their hard work and dedication to FCPS students.
