Letter from Principal Prindle

Dear Wakefield Forest Families,

Each school year we have changes as staff retire, transition to new roles or move out of the area. This year, Susan Lynch (Instructional Assistant), Sue Holmes (School Information Assistant) and Suzanne Rubinstein (Reading Specialist) will all be retiring.

Michelle Brooks (6th Grade Teacher) will be transitioning to middle school. Ashley Harrison (Kindergarten Teacher) will be moving to a school closer to home.

We also will be saying goodbye to Amanda Martin (Art Teacher) and Jenny Grimsley (Library Assistant) who will move to new positions due to reductions in staffing at WFES.

Additionally, we often shift staff within our school building to give them new opportunities to shine. As of today, these are the shifts expected for the 2025-26 SY.

Kathleen Maturan - 3rd grade AAP teacher

Kara Conques - 1st grade teacher

Lindsay Teran - Kindergarten teacher

Each of the staff members leaving us have contributed to our school community and we will miss them as they go on new adventures.

Sharyn Prindle

Principal

Full Time Advanced Academics Program (AAP) Orientation - April 30

The Full Time Advanced Academics Program (AAP) begins in 3rd grade. On April 30, 2025 we will host an orientation for families to learn more about the AAP program at Wakefield Forest. Please join us in the library at 6:30 PM.

This program is geared towards adults as the students are already aware of the unique offerings (Innovation Hour, electives, STEAM lab K-6 and mindfulness) at Wakefield Forest ES.

Learn more about the AAP program.

Volunteers Needed for SOL Days

We are looking for wonderful volunteers to help with SOL testing this year. We are in need of hallway monitors to ensure a quiet work environment and keep an extra eye on students taking breaks. Please sign up below if you are available to support us from 9-11 am during one or more of our testing dates. Reach out to Alex Dilldine, adilldine@fcps.edu,  if you have any questions.

Family Input for Class Placement May 2nd

It is time to start planning for our next school year. Developing class assignments each year is a complex process. School administration, classroom teachers, counselors, special education staff and specialists all have the opportunity to provide feedback on class groupings.

If you have feedback that you would like for us to consider, please add it to this Family Input Form no later than May 2, 2025. Late submissions will not be accepted. We will consider all feedback provided, but we are not always able to fulfill requests.

We respectfully ask that you do not request particular teachers. It is unfair to give special consideration to some families when it would be impossible to grant requests from all families. Please be aware that grade level assignments for staff sometimes change, due to late enrollments or other changes.  Staff assignments are determined at the end of the summer.

🏫Register for Kindergarten!

Do you have a rising Kindergartner? Early registration helps us to be fully staffed for the next school year. If you have a child who will be five years old by September 30, 2025, you have the option to do online or in-person registration. For online registration, please follow the directions below:

https://www.fcps.edu/online-registration

For in-person registration, please contact our Registrar, Sue Holmes, at ksholmes@fcps.edu or 703-503-2300 to receive forms via email or in person with an appointment.

Kindergarten Orientation May 7, 2025 4:00 - 6:00 PM.

4:00 - 6:00 PM      Kindergarten Orientation Registration - Cafeteria

The kindergarten assessment clinic will help us get to know your child, learn more about their handwriting, literacy and math skills, which will support with class groupings for the fall.

While your child is being assessed, you will have the opportunity to meet with Principal Prindle and learn more about our school.

Please sign up for one session per child at this link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0F49A9AA2FA3FE3-56091607-kindergarten

Tree Distribution - Saturday, 4/26

tree

Thank you for all those participating in the Neighborhood Forest Free Trees for Kids program, brought to you by the Green Team at Wakefield Forest Elementary School. Here is a schedule of seedlings distribution and guide to planting your Black Gum tree with your child.

Today WFES Green Team delivered the tree(s) you requested for your child(ren) from Neighborhood Forest – unless you have made other arrangements.

If students were unable to accept their tree today, they can pick it up in front of the school on Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. until Noon.

If you need to make other arrangements, please contact our volunteer coordinator, Trisha Ramach, at trishaschmitz@gmail.com.

All unclaimed trees will be donated by Monday, April 28th so they can be planted in a timely manner.

Don’t forget to take photos of your planting adventure! You can document the occasion and enjoy looking back on this moment when you see how your child – and your family’s tree – have grown. Please share your pics and tag us on social media along the way!
