Dear Franklin Sherman ES Parents/Guardians,
As the week begins, I want to thank the PTA for raising money to support our assembly on Friday. It was a huge hit for students and another tradition we will continue to bring back next year. There was lots of creativity and collaboration as the students competed in an academic game show.
Today, we have a truly special occasion unfolding here at Franklin Sherman today. We are absolutely thrilled to open our doors and hearts to our rising kindergarten students for the upcoming school year!
The air is buzzing with a unique kind of excitement as we prepare to welcome these bright young learners and their families. Today marks the beginning of their educational journey with us, a journey filled with discovery, growth, and countless opportunities. It's a privilege to be a part of this pivotal moment in their lives, and we are committed to providing a nurturing and stimulating environment where they can thrive.
We believe that our school is not just a building, but a vibrant community built on partnership and shared commitment. Your support plays an invaluable role in the success of our students, and we are so grateful for the strong connection we share.
To our rising kindergarten families, we extend a particularly warm welcome. We are eager to get to know you and your children and to embark on this exciting adventure together. Today is just the first step in building a strong foundation for their academic future.
Thank you for being such an integral part of the Franklin family. We look forward to a wonderful day of introductions and joyful anticipation for the year ahead.
Sincerely,
Farris Thomas Principal Franklin Sherman ES

Another great book fair has just ended!!! Thank you so much to all the parents who came to help. Because of you, all went well, without a single hitch. A special “thank you” to those who lent a hand for setting up the fair and breaking it down.
Even as our on-site book fair is closed, the virtual Book Fair is ongoing until June. Here is the link: Online Book Fair . You can continue to buy books there for your kids. While there visit the teachers’ wishlists to donate to their classroom libraries. All proceeds for these purchases go to our school as well.
For any questions or concerns, please contact Rosalie Essimi at rmessimimen@fcps.edu.

The weather is warming up and we will be planting seeds in our garden and raised beds by the tent! Last week, Kindergarten planted Common Milkweed seeds. Our Green Scene club planted radishes in our raised beds, and we also tasted, with a little olive oil and balsamic, some lettuce harvested from our raised beds planted in November.
Please join us in the garden this Friday to assemble the last raised vegetable bed, weed, and spruce up our other beds!
Email Ms.Eaton, Art Teacher, at lreaton@fcps.edu if you plan to attend. We would love to have you!
Our Green Scene club meets on Tuesday mornings at 8:15am. Students need a permission slip, just email Ms. Eaton, Mrs. Essimi rmessimimen@fcps.edu, or Ms. Michalski rlmichalski@fcps.edu.

Summer Learning Programs
Based on available funds, FCPS is not able to provide all of the centrally-operated opportunities that were available in the recent past. Specifically, we are unable to offer Bridge to Kindergarten and Young Scholars programs this summer. SOAR will be available for Title 1 schools.
Reporting All Day Absences
FCPS has created clearer guidance for reporting attendance. Please use using one of the methods below:

-
Call the school's attendance line at 703-506-7979.
