Principals' Message

TLES Families,

We hope this message finds you well as we wrap up another exciting week at TLES. This week a number of grade levels enjoyed field trips with some wonderful weather and fantastic learning involved!  We all quickly got back into the routine of school after spring break, with students demonstrating very responsible behaviors, great effort in class and collaboration with friends.  This is one of the many reasons we have the best kids!

The 4th grade students had a wonderful opportunity to visit the Kennedy Center, where they enjoyed a performance by the National Symphony Orchestra. This was a memorable experience that enriched their appreciation for music and the arts. In addition, our 5th grade students had an exciting day at the National Air & Space Museum.  Students were amazed and inspired as they explored the history of aviation in space, from the first airplane, to the first people to walk on the Moon, and beyond!

Finally, two of our 2nd grade classes, were able to visit the McLean Project for the Arts, where they observed and took part in some pretty amazing exhibitions ranging from creating recycled material collages to art inspired from Thailand to musical movement and interpretations through art. The other two 2nd grade classes will be attending at a later date.

Looking ahead, please mark your calendars for the following important upcoming events:

  • Monday, April 28th: 3 Hour Early Release at 12:35
    • Band & Strings Concert (See detailed times below)
  • Tuesday, April 29th: Kindergarten Trip to the National Zoo
  • Wednesday, April 30th: AAP Orientation Night 6pm (Use Door #3)
  • Friday, May 2nd: 2nd Grade Classes Visit McLean Project for the Arts
  • May 5th-9th: Staff Appreciation Week
    • Please reach out to the TLES PTA if you'd like to contribute at the following email address: board@timberlanepta.com

Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community. We look forward to another week filled with learning and growth.

Ben Chiet, Sarah Buchanan & Ashley Vaccaro

Early Dismissal Communication Procedures

In an effort to clearly communicate our procedures and requests to support an efficient early dismissal process, please review the notes below from our Main Office Team:

  • Families are encouraged to communicate early dismissals to the office well before 3pm daily, in order to provide the office time to create and deliver early release notes to teachers.
  • Buses begin entering the bus loop between 3:00-3:30, therefore parking within the bus loop will be very difficult.
  • Students will not be called up to the office until parent is present in office (in order for students to be present for instruction as much as possible).
  • Emergency early dismissals after 3pm will be honored.
  • Parent/guardian identification is ALWAYS required in order to gain access into the building.

If you have any questions about early dismissal procedures, please contact Dana Noland at djnoland@fcps.edu or 703-206-5300.

Social and Emotional Learning Screener:

Parent Reports

Students in grades 3-12 took the SEL Screener during the month of March, providing information on their SEL skills such as achieving goals, understanding and managing emotions, establishing and maintaining relationships, and making responsible decisions. The screener also asks students how well their school community makes them feel valued, included, and supported.

Individual student SEL Screener results are available to families in the Documents section of SIS ParentVUE. For families who do not have an active ParentVUE account, results will be sent via postal mail.

For support in understanding your individual student’s results or for ideas on how to support them at home, please review the SEL Screener Results Family Guide or reach out to our school staff with any questions.

Protect Your Child from Measles

Measles cases continue to rise in the U.S. About 1 in 5 people who get measles end up in the hospital. Measles can cause severe complications like a lung infection (pneumonia), brain inflammation (encephalitis), and possibly death, even with medical care. Symptoms of measles typically include:

  • High fever (may spike up to 104°F)
  • Cough
  • Runny nose
  • Red, watery eyes
  • A rash that appears around 3-5 days after other symptoms begin. The rash typically starts on the face and spreads down the body.

The best way to protect a child from measles is by getting two doses of the combination measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine.

If you are unsure of your child's vaccination status or your personal vaccination status, talk to your health care provider. If your child needs an immunization, make an appointment with your health care provider, visit the Fairfax County Health Department website for a list of child immunization clinics, or view other Immunization Resources.
