Fort Belvoir Primary School Weeks at a Glance 4/11/2025

pic

On Wednesday, April 9th, our school proudly celebrated Purple Up! Day—a special occasion dedicated to honoring and recognizing our military-connected students. The day began with an unforgettable welcome as several Fort Belvoir soldiers stood side by side with our staff, families, and friends to clap-in students as they entered the building. The unity and support shown in that moment created an atmosphere of pride and appreciation that could be felt throughout the school.

The joy and laughter on so many of our students' faces were truly heartwarming. For our military-connected children, this day served as a powerful reminder that their unique experiences and sacrifices are seen, valued, and celebrated. It was an emotional and meaningful moment for all who participated, and a beautiful example of the strength and support of the Fort Belvoir community.

Please take a moment to watch the FCPS video showcasing our remarkable students linked HERE and a presentation featuring some of our military families linked HERE

MOMC Symbols of Freedom!

pic

Families and students will have the opportunity to admire a special table in the cafeteria honoring military children and the symbols of freedom they represent. This tribute will remain on display throughout the month of April in recognition of the Month of the Military Child (MOMC). During our morning announcements, students have been learning about the significance of the table and the symbolism behind each item, helping them to better understand and appreciate the unique experiences and sacrifices of military-connected families.

As a proud three-time recipient of the Purple Star designation, our school is committed to supporting and celebrating our military community. This table is just one way we continue to honor and uplift our military children. We look forward to building on this MOMC tradition each year as we grow together as a school community rooted in respect, gratitude, and unity.

We encourage everyone to watch the video linked HERE to learn more about the MOMC table.

We truly appreciate our two amazing Assistant Principals, Mrs. Eileen Delany and Mrs. Tieya White. In honor of National Assistant Principals Week, we celebrated their outstanding leadership and dedication by showering them with gifts and tokens of appreciation. Their unwavering support, compassion, and commitment to our students and staff make a lasting impact every single day.

Every Day Counts at Fort Belvoir Primary!

Help us reach our goal of 9% or less this year!

Regular attendance is a significant factor in a student’s success:

  • Chronic absenteeism  (missing 10% of the school year) correlates to low academic achievement;
  • Absenteeism is a powerful predictor of dropout rates;
  • Absenteeism has been linked to poor outcomes later in life.

To promote transparency and celebrate our progress, we will share bi-weekly attendance data and updates in our newsletter. Currently, our school has a chronic absenteeism rate of 17%. By highlighting this important information, we aim to keep families informed and engaged in our collective efforts to encourage regular school attendance.

Class Placement: Family Input (optional) due Friday, May 9

This spring, Fort Belvoir Primary Staff will begin creating tentative class groupings for the upcoming school year. Classroom assignments will be finalized in mid-August.

When making these placements, we carefully consider many factors, including:

  • Individual student information
  • Teacher input
  • Social relationships
  • A blend of children with diverse needs, personalities, and learning interests in every class.

Due to the numerous factors involved in creating balanced classroom placements, including teacher staffing, we are unable to honor requests for specific teachers.

If you have information you believe is important for us to consider regarding your child’s placement for next year, please complete this form by Friday, May 9.

If you do not have any specific information you would like us to consider, there is no need to complete the form.

Earth Day Preparations at Fort Belvoir Primary

pic

Earth Day, occurring on Tuesday, April 22nd, is a crucial reminder of our responsibility to nurture and protect our planet. At our school, we’ve been instilling in our students the significance of environmental stewardship. As productive citizens, it’s vital that we prioritize sustainability and take action to preserve our Earth.

To commemorate Earth Day, students are encouraged to wear earth tones, symbolizing their commitment to the cause. Throughout the day, various classes will engage in activities like planting seeds in our school garden and learning about the benefits of composting, fostering a deeper understanding of how small actions can make a BIG difference in caring for our planet.

Families are encouraged to use the resources linked HERE with aiding conversations with students about the Earth.
