Eagle News for the Week of April 21st

Happy Spring Break!

On behalf of our school leadership team and all of our staff, we hope our students and families enjoy the spring break.  It is our privilege to serve the White Oaks community and we appreciate our wonderful families.

Happy Spring Break White Oaks!

AM and PM Kiss and Ride Reminders

We are asking all of our families to follow the Kiss and Ride procedures.  Reminders are listed below.

Morning Procedures:

  • The drop off starts at Entrance 4 at 9:05 a.m.
  • Kiss and Ride entrance is through Door 4.
  • Pull all the way up please.  We are outside, waving you on.
  • Please stay in line.
  • Do not drop students off and pull into the middle lane to get off more quickly than those who are waiting in the line.  This is akin to cutting the line.
  • Continue to be courteous White Oaks parents and guardians.  Thank you.
  • Except for Pre-School Families, please do not park in the staff lot and walk your student into school.
  • For our Patrols, if parents are driving them to school, please drop off your students before 9:00 a.m. at Door 1  by going through the front of school loop.

Afternoon Procedures:

  • Pick up begins at 4:05 for 1st through 6th grades at Door 4.
  • Please line up in the Kiss and Ride line and display your tag for us to call your student outside.
  • If you need a tag, you can request one from our main office staff.  Come in or call 703-923-1400.
  • If parents are driving students home, we request that you follow the Kiss and Ride procedures regularly.
  • There may be occasions where a parent or guardian needs to park  in the staff lot for PM dismissal and walk up to the main entrance to pick up their student.  Please try to limit these times so that our parking lot can be more safe.

You may contact Ms. Klena (AM Kiss and Ride Supervisor) or Ms. Jimenez (PM Kiss and Ride Supervisor) with questions about our Kiss and Ride procedures. Thank you!

April 21st - 3 Hour Early Closing at White Oaks

On Monday, April 21st, we will have an early dismissal for required staff training.  Students will be released at 1:05 and busses will depart at 1:20.  For families who have decided to have students stay at school until the normal dismissal time, we will have supervised activities and SACC will start early for PM SACC students.

AAAP Spring Screening: Referrals accepted March 21 – April 21, 2025

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is committed to challenging all students through talent development and differentiated instruction to meet the needs of advanced learners.

While screening for Subject Specific and Part-Time AAP Services can occur any time in the school year, we review data on all students in the Spring to determine services for the start of the next school year. Please note that the deadline for Full Time AAP referrals has passed (December 15, 2024) and we are not able to accept any Full Time referrals at this time.

Parents are welcome to submit a School Based Referral Form (linked here) to Susan Lattuca (salattuca@fcps.edu) and Dana Harlan (daharlan@fcps.edu), our AARTs, during the Spring Screening window between March 21st and April 21st.  Parents or guardians who submit a referral form will be notified by the local elementary school of their student’s eligibility status in early June.

Screening Process for Subject Specific and Part-Time Services

Multiple criteria are reviewed holistically to determine eligibility for all FCPS advanced academic services. Committees consider student work from opportunities with AAP lessons, examples of student reasoning or gifted behaviors from class discussions and activities, progress reports, achievement and ability scores, and parent or guardian input. Committees consider whether students have access to a group of students with similar academic needs to support academic conversations and growth in the classroom.

For more information about the continuum of AAP services, please visit the AAP website at: https://www.fcps.edu/registration/advancedacademics-identification-and-placement/current-fcps-students

If you have questions, please reach out to Susan Lattuca (salattuca@fcps.edu) and Dana Harlan (daharlan@fcps.edu).
