Dear Cedar Lane School Community,
As we approach the much-anticipated Spring Break, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude for the dedication and hard work each member of our school community has demonstrated throughout this academic year. The arrival of spring is not only a glorious time to witness nature’s beauty blooming around us, but it also serves as an important opportunity for rest, recharge, and reflection. I hope you will all take this time to relax and enjoy quality moments with family and friends.
Spring Break Office Closure:
Please be advised that our school offices will be closed during Spring Break, from Monday April 14th- Friday April 18th. Normal office hours will resume on April 21st. Please email me directly if you need support or to speak over spring break.
Senior Field Trip Permission Slips
I would like to take this opportunity to remind our senior students that permission slips for the upcoming senior field trip have been distributed. It is crucial that these slips are signed and returned to the school by Wednesday April 23, 2025. This trip promises to be a memorable experience for our seniors, and your timely assistance will ensure their participation.
Thank you once again for being such an integral part of our Cedar Lane School community. I look forward to seeing everyone back refreshed and ready for the exciting weeks ahead.

Excellent teachers are the heart of FCPS! They inspire our kids, go the extra mile, and make a real difference. But the current Fairfax County Board of Supervisors advertised budget underfunds FCPS by $150 million for next year.
Being fully funded helps keep class sizes down and the number of highly-qualified teachers up at FCPS. Keeping the best teachers includes compensation that allows them to live and work in Fairfax County. The Fairfax County budget priorities survey is open until Thursday, April 24. 🛑 Cameras Installed on School Bus Stop Arms
Cameras have been installed on the stop arms of 50 FCPS school buses. These cameras will be used to identify drivers who pass stopped school buses while children are entering and exiting the bus (called a “stop arm violation”).
Drivers have begun to receive warnings. After a 30-day warning period, citations will begin to be issued on Monday, May 12.
According to Virginia law, drivers must stop for stopped school buses with flashing red lights on and their stop signs extended. Motorists should stop when approaching from any direction, unless there is a barrier or median separating their lane from where the bus is stopped. They should remain stopped until everyone is clear, and the bus is moving.
We appreciate our law enforcement partners for working with FCPS to improve road safety and reduce accidents. Read more about the stop arm cameras and other ways FCPS works with our county partners to keep students safe on their way to and from school.

🛑 Se Instalaron Cámaras en las Barras de Stop de 50 Autobuses
Se han instalado cámaras en las barras de stop de 50 autobuses de FCPS. Estas cámaras se usarán para identificar a los conductores que no se detengan cuando los niños estén entrando o bajándose los autobuses (lo que se conoce como “stop arm violation” o infracción a la barra de stop).

April is Autism Acceptance Month. One in 44 children is diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder in the United States, according to the CDC. Our schools and staff play a vital role in creating and ensuring inclusive environments that accommodate and affirm autistic students.

The people of these nations are ethnically, politically, and religiously diverse but share a common cultural and linguistic heritage.
