PurpleUp! Week @ NFES
This week we celebrated our military-connected Knights!
Students and staff dressed out for FCPS' PurpleUp! Day on Wednesday, April 9th.
All of our Knights enjoyed Popsicles on PurpleUp! Day, courtesy of our generous NFES PTA. Thank you, PTA!
We hosted our first Muffins for the Military Breakfast Friday morning. We honored our military-connected students and families with a muffin breakfast, organized by Ms. Carico, and supplied by NFES staff. As a special treat, a select number of students from Ms. Ragusa's orchestra performed 2 pieces for us.
Special shout-out to our SCA Officers! These dedicated students helped Newington Forest Elementary become a Purple Star School by spending part of their summer break as Student Ambassadors to our newest Knights.
Fun fact - 3 of our 4 SCA Officers are military-connected students!

In the spirit of Month of the Military Child, FCPS will support military-connected students with a deployed parent or guardian by donating items to build deployment support kits.
Please make a donation for our children with a deployed parent.
These kits will offer comfort and resources to help these military-connected youth navigate the challenges of separation and keep them connected to their loved ones.
Drop off any donations to your school from April 1 through April 30, 2025.
Your contribution can make a meaningful difference in a child’s life during this difficult time.

NFES Lost & Found

|
We're getting ready to clear out our Lost & Found. When we return from Spring Break, please take a look through the Lost & Found to see if you need to pick out your child's belongings. We will donate all remaining items on April 25th. |
Excellence Is at a Crossroads
Excellent teachers are the heart of FCPS! They inspire our kids, go the extra mile, and make a real difference. But the current Fairfax County Board of Supervisors advertised budget underfunds FCPS by $150 million for next year.
Being fully funded helps keep class sizes down and the number of highly-qualified teachers up at FCPS. Keeping the best teachers includes compensation that allows them to live and work in Fairfax County. The Fairfax County budget priorities survey is open until Thursday, April 24. Take a moment to share your thoughts. Now is the time. Learn more about how excellence is at a Crossroads.
 Warnings for drivers!
As part of a new safety initiative, 50 FCPS buses are now equipped with stop-arm cameras that identify drivers who illegally pass buses while children are entering and exiting.
Citations will begin to be issued on Monday, May 12.
Let’s work together to keep every child safe at the bus stop!
Get to Know FCPS and the Resources Available to Families
Being connected to your school community helps you stay informed and support your child’s success. Take some time to get familiar with the many resources and tools available to FCPS families, including:
-
School Age Child Care (SACC) – This Fairfax County government program provides a safe and fun environment before and after school for elementary school-age children.
-
FCPS Communications for Families – FCPS shares news and information to support student learning and promote family engagement.
-
FCPS Family Academy – We know that as a parent or caregiver, you play a critical role in your child's education. The Family Academy compiles classes, webinars, workshops, and programs offered by FCPS to help you support your child's needs and learning at home. The Family Academy also includes information about resources to help you ensure your child has what they need to succeed.
There’s an easy to follow five-step process outlined for parents registering their children for kindergarten. If you have questions about registering your child at Newington Forest Elementary, please contact Jessi Padua, Student Information Assistant, at jpadua@fcps.edu.
FCPS Cares is an opportunity for parents, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others and show they care. We invite you to submit your story so we can all acknowledge the good work of our Newington Forest staff members. |
