Purple Up! was a huge success! We celebrated our incredible military families with a fantastic breakfast and inspiring guest speakers. Thanks to everyone who came out to show their support – we are so thankful for our military families! And a very special thank you to our student ambassadors for their hard work in helping set up and for the wonderful bulletin board they put together!

Notes from the Administration

Dear CWES Families,

This week is National School Assistant Principals Week, and I want to take a moment to express my sincere appreciation for Ms. Milliron and Mrs. McGeehan. I am incredibly lucky to have Ms. Milliron and Mrs. McGeehan as part of our team. Their leadership, compassion, and commitment to our students and staff are truly remarkable. They consistently go above and beyond, and their positive impact is felt throughout our school. We are truly fortunate to have them at CWES!

Reminder: Monday, April 21st is an early release day. This is the Monday we return from Spring Break. Students will be dismissed at 1:05 PM, following the same dismissal procedure as March 10th. If you need to change your student's dismissal plans, please call the office at (703) 764-5600. The online transportation change form will be unavailable.

News From FCPS

School Start Times Survey

⏰ Share Your Thoughts on School Start Times

FCPS would like to hear from all families on the possibility of adjusting school start times across the division. Please check your email for a survey link from Fairfax County Public Schools. It was also sent to staff as well as to students in grades 5-12. The confidential survey will be open through Saturday, April 12.

Budget

Excellence Is at a Crossroads

Excellent teachers are the heart of FCPS! They inspire our kids, go the extra mile, and make a real difference. But the current Fairfax County Board of Supervisors advertised budget underfunds FCPS by $150 million for next year.

Being fully funded helps keep class sizes down and the number of highly-qualified teachers up at FCPS. Keeping the best teachers includes compensation that allows them to live and work in Fairfax County. The Fairfax County budget priorities survey is open until Thursday, April 24. Take a moment to share your thoughts. Now is the time. Learn more about how excellence is at a Crossroads.

🛑 Cameras Installed on School Bus Stop Arms

Cameras have been installed on the stop arms of 50 FCPS school buses. These cameras will be used to identify drivers who pass stopped school buses while children are entering and exiting the bus (called a “stop arm violation”).

Drivers have begun to receive warnings. After a 30-day warning period, citations will begin to be issued on Monday, May 12.

According to Virginia law, drivers must stop for stopped school buses with flashing red lights on and their stop signs extended. Motorists should stop when approaching from any direction, unless there is a barrier or median separating their lane from where the bus is stopped. They should remain stopped until everyone is clear, and the bus is moving.

We appreciate our law enforcement partners for working with us to improve road safety and reduce accidents. Read more about the stop arm cameras and other ways FCPS works with our county partners to keep students safe on their way to and from school.
