Atoms Athletics Recap

Baseball traveled Tuesday evening to take on Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. The early part of April has been good to the Atom's bats and it continued early on in the game as the Atoms jumped out to a 6-0 lead. Unfortunately, the gloves weren't so hot as the Atoms committed a few errors to allow TJ to stay in the game and ultimately pull out an 8-7 win over the Atoms. Thursday evening was a matchup with visiting Edison. The Eagles came in hot and left the Atoms in the dust to head home with a big district win. The Atoms host the the Grant and Danny Spring Break Tournament Saturday with first pitch at 10:00am

Softball made the short trip down Braddock Road to TJ Tuesday evening. The night was cold and so was the Atoms' bats as they could only muster two hits on the evening and fall to TJ 7-0. The Atoms bats were quiet again on Thursday evening as the Edison Eagles shutdown the Atoms lineup and send the Atoms into spring break. The Atoms return to the field on Tuesday, April 22 vs Mt. Vernon.

Boys Lacrosse took the bus to Lewis Tuesday evening for the last game before the break. The Atoms got off the bus fired up and ready to go and it showed as they dominated the Lancers from end to end. It was a complete game by the Atoms to come home with a 12-4 district win. The Atoms return to the field on April 21 as they host senior night.

Girls Lacrosse hosted Lewis Tuesday evening for their lone game of the week. It was a special night as the Atoms honored their seniors. The game started off in defensive battle for both teams as the score was 1-0 after one for Lewis. The second quarter saw the Lancers score a few more to hold the lead at halftime. The Lancers got up 7-2 before the Atoms battled in the second half but ran out of time as they fell 7-5. The Atoms are off over spring break and return to take on Meridian on Wednesday, April 23.

Boys Soccer took a short trip up 495 to neighborhood rival Falls Church. The game was an exciting back and forth game that saw it knotted at 0-0 at the half. The second half was a different story with both teams trading 2 goals apiece at the end of regulation. OT was a mirror image of the first half with neither team adding to the scoreboard to end in a 2-2 tie. The Atoms travel to Justice for their first game back after the break.

Girls Soccer welcome Gar-Field to Annandale Monday evening. The Atoms continued their hot streak of goals and shutouts as they dominated the Red Wolves from the start to finish, holding a 6-0 lead at halftime and finishing the game off with an 8-0 mercy rule win. Thursday evening, the Atoms welcomed rival Falls Church. The shutouts continued Thursday evening as the Atoms defeated the Jaguars 1-0 to make it four in a row and 2-0 in the district. The Atoms return after spring break with a home date vs Justice.

Boys Tennis battled cold temperatures and wind Tuesday vs Mt. Vernon. All of that didn't matter as the Atoms' rackets were on fire and blew away the Majors to win the district match. The Atoms played host to Edison Thursday but unfortunately, the match was postponed after getting started due to inclement weather.

Girls Tennis made the trip down route 1 to Mt. Vernon to take on the Majors in a cold and blustery day. The Atoms made quick work of the Majors in the singles matches to run away and come home with a win. The Atoms were able to sneak in their match vs Falls Church before the rain hit. Unfortunately, the Atoms weren't able to sneak away with a win.

Outdoor Track continued to work on improvement and development as they traveled to Lewis for their final tune up before spring break. The Atoms had several more athletes qualify for the district meet and a couple who narrowly missed out on region qualifying. They will take a break and get back to it with trip to Hayfield after the break.

Atoms Boosters Concession Stand Help

Attention Parents! Volunteers are needed to sell concessions at games throughout the year. We welcome any and all parents to volunteer but when parents of a particular sport work a game, a portion of concessions sales directly benefit that team. If you are not able to help directly at home games, there are many ways you can get involved with the Atoms Athletics Boosters by attending our monthly meetings or being a team liaison. Thank you for your support for Atom’s Athletics!

For questions about concession stand sign ups, contact Odessa Murray.
