WELCOME BACK!

Dear Fairhill Families,

We are so glad to welcome everyone back from Spring Break! We hope your time away was restful and rejuvenating. As we head into the final stretch of the school year, we are looking forward to a productive and exciting month of April leading into May. There’s so much great learning and growth still to come!

PTA/Fairhill Garden Day – This Weekend!
We are excited to announce that our annual PTA/Fairhill Garden Day is scheduled for this Saturday, April 26. It is a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community and beautify our school grounds. Currently, rain is in the forecast for Saturday. If the weather does not cooperate, we will move the event to our backup date, Sunday, April 27 at 9:00AM.

Stay tuned—we will be sending a message via Talking Points later this week with more details to help everyone prepare.

As always, thank you for your continued support and partnership!

Warmly,
Ted & Maura

Class Placement

Class Placement Family Input

We are working on our plans for the 2025-26 school year and will be collecting parent input electronically. Class placements are an essential component of learning and building community. If you have information that you would like us to consider as we determine placements, please take a few moments to answer the survey questions. Our teachers will work together to create classes built on the idea that students learn from each other’s strengths.

Please provide your input about the learning environment best suited for your child.  Click HERE for the Fairhill Elementary 2025-2026 Kindergarten Parent Input Form and/or click HERE for Parent Input for Class Placements 2025-2026 so that the information can be processed before class building.

Please note that we do not take direct teacher requests. Instead, we ask that you describe the attributes that will support your child best. Completion of this form is optional however, the deadline to complete it is May 23.

Support

Month of the Military Child

April is the Month of the Military Child (MOMC), a time to honor and celebrate the resilience, courage, and contributions of Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) military-connected youth.

In that spirit, our MOMC service project will support military-connected students with a deployed parent or guardian by donating items to build deployment support kits.

These kits will offer comfort and resources to help these military-connected youth navigate the challenges of separation and keep them connected to their loved ones.

Drop off any donations to the office from April 22 through April 30, 2025.

Your contribution can make a meaningful difference in a child’s life during this difficult time.

Possible donations

  • Tote bag to hold items
  • Pens/pencils
  • Letter writing materials (cards, paper, envelopes, forever stamps)
  • Coloring books, markers, or crayons
  • New stuffed animal Blanket
  • Matching picture frames Journal
  • Craft supplies for welcome home decorations
  • Gift cards for a special treat
  • Yellow ribbon to signify a deployed service member
  • Friendship bracelets for children and deployed parent
  • Two copies of books to share with child and deployed parent

Staff Appreciation Week Volunteer Opportunities

Teacher Appreciation Week is almost here, and we need some wicked good help to make it truly spellbinding! 🧙‍♀️💚 This year’s theme is WICKED, and we’re brewing up a week full of appreciation for our incredible teachers. But we can’t do it alone -- there are many ways you can contribute to the fun of showering our teachers and staff with the appreciation they deserve.

You and your student can also participate in these daily activities:

May 5: Send your teacher a note through the VA Lottery

May 6: High five a teacher or admin and say thank you

May 7: Draw a picture or write a song for your teacher or other staff to show your appreciation

May 8: Classroom cleanup, show your gratitude by helping pick up.

May 9: Wear GREEN or PINK to show Fairhill teachers and staff that you think they’re OZ-SOME!

If you have any questions please email our Staff Appreciation Committee (Kelly - kbararkeeler@gmail.com, Kimberly - vansantosfamily@gmail.com, and Mary - maryflomandell@gmail.com).

CALLING FOR VOLUNTEERS:  HELP TO MAKE BIG DIFFERENCE IN OUR COMMUNITY

The Fairhill PTA again will continue to support Fairhill families and our broader local community by collecting unused food purchased from the cafeteria (e.g., milk, string cheese) and/or unopened store bought food (e.g., crackers) during the spring semester

Our kids' role -> Kids are asked to leave food they may otherwise toss in the garbage and instead put it off in the Food for Others fridge in the cafeteria.

Our volunteers' role -> Once a week (Mondays or Tuesdays), we are asking for a volunteer to collect the food and drop it off at Food For Others (1 mile away).

Our collective Impact -> In addition to minimizing food waste, we are helping 75,000 Fairfax County (and Fairhill families) who are food insecure.  On a weekly basis last year, we collected hundreds of milk cartons, string cheese packets, crackers, yoghurts and more.

Sign up here to volunteer!  Questions????  Call/text//email Anika Marpaka (anikaamin@yahoo.com or 703 855 0500)
