Dear London Towne Family,

Get ready for another exciting week of learning and community building here at LTES!

First up, we're thrilled to invite you to our Cultural Heritage Night on Thursday, April 24th, from 5:45 PM to 7:30 PM. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the rich tapestry of cultures that make our school so special. Come and share your heritage with other LTES families and learn about theirs! We'll have opportunities to taste delicious food, play fun games, and create beautiful art projects, all representing the diverse cultures and countries within our community. We can't wait to connect with you all!

This week is also a special time to recognize the incredible efforts of our main office staff. They are truly the glue that holds our school together, providing invaluable support to our students, staff, and families, ensuring everyone has what they need to thrive. If you happen to be in the building this week, please take a moment to let them know how much you appreciate their hard work and dedication. A little appreciation goes a long way!

Can you believe it? We are down to the final 7.5 weeks of the 2025-2026 school year! We still have so much learning and growing to accomplish together. Your partnership in ensuring your child is at school and on time each day is crucial as we work towards a strong finish to the year.

Thank you for your continued support and collaboration. We look forward to a fantastic week!

Warmly,

🦁 Shele Banford, Principal

🦁🦁 Lucy Zamora and Jordan Moore, Assistant Principals

  2025-26 Kindergarten Registration

Attending kindergarten provides children with an opportunity to learn and practice the essential social, emotional, problem-solving, and self-regulation skills they will use throughout their lives. Eligible children can also be registered throughout the summer, but registering your child early helps us prepare and ensure we have the teachers and resources needed on the first day of school.

We recognize that parents are their children’s first teachers. Explore the resources on FCPS’ School Readiness and Transition to Kindergarten webpage for ways to help ensure your child starts kindergarten with confidence.

Families should prepare for registration by gathering documents and completing forms on the FCPS kindergarten registration webpage. FCPS offers support and resources for all families to help with registration and the transition to kindergarten. For support in other languages, visit the kindergarten registration webpage.

A strong start to school is Goal 1 of the FCPS2023-30 Strategic Plan

There’s an easy five-step process for parents wanting to register their child for kindergarten:

  1. Determine eligibility.
  2. Identify your local school.
  3. Gather documents.
  4. Fill out forms.
  5. Schedule an appointment.

Read more about the registration process. For additional information, please contact Carolyn Licastro, our school registrar, at 703-227-5403.

Cameras on School Bus Stop Arms

🛑 Cameras Installed on School Bus Stop Arms

Cameras have been installed on the stop arms of 50 FCPS school buses. These cameras will be used to identify drivers who pass stopped school buses while children are entering and exiting the bus (called a “stop arm violation”).

Drivers have begun to receive warnings. After a 30-day warning period, citations will begin to be issued on Monday, May 12.

According to Virginia law, drivers must stop for stopped school buses with flashing red lights on and their stop signs extended. Motorists should stop when approaching from any direction, unless there is a barrier or median separating their lane from where the bus is stopped. They should remain stopped until everyone is clear, and the bus is moving.

We appreciate our law enforcement partners for working with FCPS to improve road safety and reduce accidents. Read more about the stop arm cameras and other ways FCPS works with our county partners to keep students safe on their way to and from school.

April is Autism Acceptance Month. One in 44 children is diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder in the United States, according to the CDC. Our schools and staff play a vital role in creating and ensuring inclusive environments that accommodate and affirm autistic students.
