Message From Mrs. Burke

Dear Edison Families,

We’ve finally made it to spring break! Our students will be off all next week, and our school and offices will be closed so that everyone has the opportunity to relax, recharge, and enjoy some well-deserved downtime. I hope this upcoming week brings you peace, sunshine, and time with loved ones.

This past Wednesday, we hosted our Pyramid Art Show, and it was an incredible display of creativity and talent. I loved seeing the amazing artwork from our future Eagles as well as the impressive pieces from our current high school students. The level of skill, detail, and thought behind each piece truly blew me away — we have some incredibly gifted artists in our community!

On Thursday, during Advisory, I met with our Eagle Council, where students, administrators, and teachers came together to share ideas around how we can continue to grow and improve our advisory/return periods, build on our equity work, and enhance safety and security in our building. It was powerful to see students at the table, helping shape the future of our school. I’m proud of the thoughtful conversations and the collaborative spirit that filled the room.

Later that afternoon, we took time to celebrate our military-connected students with an after-school gathering filled with food, games, and fun. These students and families bring so much strength and resilience to our community, and it was a joy to honor them.

We also held our Electrical Construction and Engineering Promotion Ceremony. Mr. Wolfe continues to do an outstanding job recognizing and celebrating the accomplishments of our students in this program — congratulations to all!

Looking ahead, once we return from break, we have several important events on the horizon:

  • Prom will be held on April 25th at the Crystal View in Fair Lakes. We’re looking forward to a fun and memorable night for our seniors!
  • Dr. Reid’s Community Conversation will take place on April 21st at 6:00 p.m. at Mt. Eagle Elementary School. It’s a great opportunity for families to engage in conversation around what’s happening across FCPS.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership. I wish each of you a safe, restful, and happy spring break!

Mrs. Burke

Excellence Is at a Crossroads

Excellent teachers are the heart of FCPS! They inspire our kids, go the extra mile, and make a real difference. But the current Fairfax County Board of Supervisors advertised budget underfunds FCPS by $150 million for next year.

Being fully funded helps keep class sizes down and the number of highly-qualified teachers up at FCPS. Keeping the best teachers includes compensation that allows them to live and work in Fairfax County. The Fairfax County budget priorities survey is open until Thursday, April 24. Take a moment to share your thoughts. Now is the time. Learn more about how excellence is at a Crossroads.

Cameras Installed on School Bus Stop Arms

🛑 Cameras Installed on School Bus Stop Arms

Cameras have been installed on the stop arms of 50 FCPS school buses. These cameras will be used to identify drivers who pass stopped school buses while children are entering and exiting the bus (called a “stop arm violation”).

Drivers have begun to receive warnings. After a 30-day warning period, citations will begin to be issued on Monday, May 12.

According to Virginia law, drivers must stop for stopped school buses with flashing red lights on and their stop signs extended. Motorists should stop when approaching from any direction, unless there is a barrier or median separating their lane from where the bus is stopped. They should remain stopped until everyone is clear, and the bus is moving.

We appreciate our law enforcement partners for working with FCPS to improve road safety and reduce accidents. Read more about the stop arm cameras and other ways FCPS works with our county partners to keep students safe on their way to and from school.

Your Edison PTSA Needs YOU!

We have several key vacancies for next year, and without your help, we will NOT have a PTSA. That means important programs and events will be lost, including:

    • Class of 2026 All Night Graduation Party
    • Food Pantry Services
    • Senior Scholarships
    • Teacher Mini-Grants
    • Monthly Meetings with Principal Burke
    • Teacher Appreciation Events and more

The PTSA plays a vital role in fostering Edison’s vibrant, supportive community—and we can’t do it without you.

Please don’t wait for someone else to step up. We need YOU.

Join us at our next meeting: Tuesday, April 22, 2025 | 7:00 PM | Edison Library

Let’s keep the Edison spirit strong—together!
