Centreville Students, Families, and Community,
Although we only had three school days last week, our campus was filled with energy and activity. Approximately 30 teachers and administrators participated in a structured instructional rounds process, providing an excellent opportunity to visit classrooms across various subjects and observe the high-quality teaching happening at our school. On Thursday evening, the staff triumphed in the Student vs. Staff Volleyball Game, an event that brought our community together and strengthened our Wildcat spirit!
This week marks the final stretch before spring break, and to celebrate, we are excited to kick off Wellness Week for both students and staff. Monday will feature therapy dogs during lunch, and on Wednesday, students will have the opportunity to participate in choice activities. Staff members can look forward to special wellness activities throughout the week. A big thank you to our Student Government Association for organizing these events and raising awareness about the importance of self-care.
I would also like to invite students, parents, and guardians to join us for the PTSA meeting this Tuesday, April 8, at 7:00 PM in the CVHS Library. The meeting will focus on the All Night Grad Party for the Class of 2025, and we are seeking volunteers to help make this tradition a success. If you’re not yet a member of the CVHS PTSA, we encourage you to learn more about membership, donations, and past meeting details here.
The next Wildcat Weekly will be sent out on April 20. In the meantime, I hope all of our students and families enjoy a well-deserved spring break!
Thank you and Go Wildcats!

April 9 - Purple Up for Military Families: Purple Up for Military Families is a nationwide initiative dedicated to honoring and supporting military children. Celebrated every April during the Month of the Military Child, Purple Up encourages people to wear purple on Wednesday, April 9 as a visible show of solidarity. The color purple symbolizes the blending of all branches of the military—Army green, Navy blue, Air Force blue, Marine Corps red, and Coast Guard blue. It’s a simple but powerful way for communities to show appreciation for the sacrifices military families make.
April 10 - Rising 9th Grade Activities Day: On April 10, we are excited to have students from Liberty and Ricky Run Middle Schools to our upcoming Activities Fair! This event is designed to help students explore extracurricular opportunities, from sports teams to clubs, and learn how to get involved in high school. First, students will be provided a brief presentation on the importance of involvement in extracurricular activities, time and tryout requirements, and how to explore different clubs and activities. We hope to inspire our incoming students to get involved in the Wildcat Nation!

Come to the cafeteria April 21st and April 22nd to audition from 4:30-7PM. Everyone is welcome, including those who didn't fill out the interest form. You must attend at least ONE of those dates, but attendance at both is highly recommended. Arrive in athletic attire, a positive attitude, and ready to have fun!
April 22 - Junior Class “Getting Ready for Senior Year” Presentation: The Class of 2026 presentation called Getting Ready for Senior Year is coming up on Tuesday, April 22 during ROAR/PLUS 2. Centreville Students Selected for Girls State: Congratulations to Claire Kim and Twisha Sinha for their selection to the prestigious Virginia Girls State program! Virginia Girls State is a leadership action program, designed to develop a working knowledge of the structure of government. Girls State is among the most respected educational programs of government instruction for high school students. At Girls State, participants are exposed to the rights and privileges, the duties and the responsibilities of a franchised citizen. The training is objective and practical with city, county and state governments operated by the students elected to the various offices. Activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement presentations, assemblies, bands, chorus and recreational programs. Claire and Twisha will be traveling to Radford University from 6/15 - 6/20. We are very proud to have them represent CVHS!

FCPS Budget Update - Excellence is at a Crossroads: Fairfax County residents believe in the value of a strong public school system. Residents live here because of the excellence of Fairfax County Public Schools, even our community members with grown children. Excellence in FCPS comes from its people — dedicated teachers and support staff who make sure that our students are ready to learn. Today, that excellence is at a crossroads.
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors will finalize the budget on Tuesday, May 6, and the current advertised budget underfunds FCPS by $150 million.
Now is the time. Do we want continued excellence, or are we ready to consider cuts to important programs that we have come to expect from FCPS?
Do you believe in the power and promise of public education? Go to fcps.edu/crossroads.
School Start Times Survey: FCPS would like to hear from all families on the possibility of adjusting school start times across the division. Please check your email for a survey link from Fairfax County Public Schools. It was also sent to staff as well as to students in grades 5-12. The confidential survey will be open through Saturday, April 12.
Military-Connected Family Support: FCPS welcomes all of our new and returning military-connected families throughout the year! Whether your family is moving permanently to the school district or living here for a short time, our schools and support staff welcome you and will be able to assist with your transition into and/or out of our district.

Seniors- all service hours must be VERIFIED by an adult in x2vol by APRIL 21st to be approved before graduation
- Service learning is not required for graduation
- A minimum of 40 hours is required for a service cord
- A minimum of 50 hours is required towards Civics and Science seals
- Helpful tips for all students:
- For an activity that you do consistently, please enter ONE submission every few months. Include the date range of that activity (ie. every Saturday from 10am-12pm from Jan. 6, 2024 to May 4, 2024) that adds up to the total number of hours claimed.
- If a parent directly oversees your activity as a part of the sponsoring organization, please indicate that in the description (ie. SYA soccer coach, Girl Scout troop leader, etc). Otherwise, the verifier should be an adult who is not related to you. It cannot be a classmate.
- The description should include your responsibilities as a volunteer and how you spent your time in that service learning activity. It can be 1-2 sentences.
- The reflection should include how you felt and how your volunteerism impacted others. It can be brief but thorough. It should not be a duplicate of your description.
- If you select the science goal in your entry, be sure that your volunteerism is directly related to the application of science (ie. glass recycling, invasive plant management, storm drain labeling, etc.).
- More details are on the Service Learning page of the CVHS website: https://centrevillehs.fcps.edu/student-life-activities/service-learning
