Wakefield Forest ES will be closed during Spring Break! While some construction will be occurring on site, school staff will not be available. |
Our Open House event was a big success. We were excited to welcome community members, former families, former staff members and students who attended WFES all the way back to the 1970s.
We were grateful to our volunteer tour guides, Cindy Cook, Alicia Stahl, Alex Dilldine, Kendra Callahan, Susan Ely, Calvin Tahan, Goose De Lucia and Maggie Lubinski for supporting our Open House. Thank you to Mary Muratore and the Green Team for providing some fun hands-on opportunities for families. As well as all of the folks behind the scenes helping with clean up and set up.
Thank you to all the Green Team students and parents who volunteered to help in the courtyard for the open house. Shout out to Trisha Ramach (Reed’s mom from Ms. Cook’s class) for organizing the glass recycling and the “Touch the Truck” event for our Kindergarten and First grade students. Congratulations to Elliot S and Arrian K for winning a free Green Team T-shirt!

We're grateful to Mrs. Martin and Ms. Lopresti, our fabulous art teachers, for their hard work this year, including the projects highlighted at the Woodson Pyramid Art Show. |
Our assembly today talked about growth mindset, facing challenges. NED stands for Never Give Up, Encourage Others, and Do Your Best. Ask your child about NED, the Yeti and having a Growth Mindset.
Thank you to our amazing PTA for organizing this fun event!

The Full Time Advanced Academics Program (AAP) begins in 3rd grade. On April 30, 2025 we will host an orientation for families to learn more about the AAP program at Wakefield Forest. Please join us in the library at 6:30 PM.
This program is geared towards adults as the students are already aware of the unique offerings (Innovation Hour, electives, STEAM lab K-6 and mindfulness) at Wakefield Forest ES.
Learn more about the AAP program.
We are looking for wonderful volunteers to help with SOL testing this year. We are in need of hallway monitors to ensure a quiet work environment and keep an extra eye on students taking breaks. Please sign up below if you are available to support us from 9-11 am during one or more of our testing dates. Reach out to Alex Dilldine, adilldine@fcps.edu, if you have any questions.

It is time to start planning for our next school year. Developing class assignments each year is a complex process. School administration, classroom teachers, counselors, special education staff and specialists all have the opportunity to provide feedback on class groupings.
If you have feedback that you would like for us to consider, please add it to this Family Input Form no later than May 2, 2025. Late submissions will not be accepted. We will consider all feedback provided, but we are not always able to fulfill requests.
We respectfully ask that you do not request particular teachers. It is unfair to give special consideration to some families when it would be impossible to grant requests from all families. Please be aware that grade level assignments for staff sometimes change, due to late enrollments or other changes. Staff assignments are determined at the end of the summer.
Do you have a rising Kindergartner? Early registration helps us to be fully staffed for the next school year. If you have a child who will be five years old by September 30, 2025, you have the option to do online or in-person registration. For online registration, please follow the directions below:
https://www.fcps.edu/online-registration
For in-person registration, please or contact our Registrar, Sue Holmes, at ksholmes@fcps.edu or 703-503-2300 to receive forms via email or in person with an appointment.

While your child is being assessed, you will have the opportunity to meet with Principal Prindle and learn more about our school.
Please sign up for one session per child at this link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0F49A9AA2FA3FE3-56091607-kindergarten

Cameras have been installed on the stop arms of 50 FCPS school buses. These cameras will be used to identify drivers who pass stopped school buses while children are entering and exiting the bus (called a “stop arm violation”).
Drivers have begun to receive warnings. After a 30-day warning period, citations will begin to be issued on Monday, May 12. This includes passing in and around the school parking lots, which has been a concern at WFES.
According to Virginia law, drivers must stop for stopped school buses with flashing red lights on and their stop signs extended. Motorists should stop when approaching from any direction, unless there is a barrier or median separating their lane from where the bus is stopped. They should remain stopped until everyone is clear, and the bus is moving.
We appreciate our law enforcement partners for working with FCPS to improve road safety and reduce accidents. Read more about the stop arm cameras and other ways FCPS works with our county partners to keep students safe on their way to and from school.

Thank you to all the families who registered to receive a free tree from Neighborhood Forest on behalf of your WFES student.
The Green Team at Wakefield Forest Elementary School is planning to deliver the seedling(s) you ordered to your child’s classroom on Friday, April 25. Neighborhood Forest has announced it will be sending us Black Gum seedlings to distribute. Please click here to learn more about your tree, why this species was selected, and for your planting guide.
If your child is unable to accept the classroom delivery, you may pick it up from the Green Team in front of the school between 10am-Noon on Saturday, April 26. If you expect or find that neither of these dates work for your schedule, please reach out to our volunteer coordinator, Trisha Ramach (Reed – K – Mrs. Cook), to make other arrangements. Trisha’s email is trishaschmitz@gmail.com.
Please note: All unclaimed trees will be donated to be planted by Monday, April 28.
Until then, you can enjoy these fun activities brought to us by Neighborhood Forest:
Happy spring from The WFES Green Team!
