FCPS has many resources for families designed to increase engagement and partnerships with families while fostering academic success and social-emotional growth. The Family Resource Center offers free webinars, confidential consultations, a lending library, tutoring services, and resources to help adults support the success of all students, including those with learning challenges, special needs, and disabilities.The new FCPS Family Academy is a targeted outreach effort to empower and build capacity, connections, cognition, confidence, and awareness through interactive learning experiences, tools, and resources for families in FCPS through a one-stop approach.

Math Strategies for Students with Significant Cognitive Disabilities

April 11, 10 - 11:30 A.M.

In this session participants will learn about evidence-based practices in teaching students with significant cognitive disabilities and how they apply to math instruction. Specific early numeracy objectives will be discussed, along with related activities to support these objectives using items easily found within the home. A participant guide will be provided, containing a variety of tools and resources. Register here


 Empowering Twice-Exceptional Students to Understand the Role of Accommodations in Accessing Learning

April 22, 10 - 11:30 A.M.

Supporting families to understand what accommodations are and how they support twice exceptional (2e) students in accessing learning, learn strategies to empower their 2e child to understand and request to use their 504/IEP accommodations, explore ways to collaborate with educators to ensure effective accommodation use and to gain resources to support ongoing conversations with your child about accommodations and their learning needs.Register here


The Role of Boundaries in Teen Development

The Family Academy offers in-person and virtual classes, workshops, webinars, and programs for families. Upcoming sessions include:

  • Co-Parenting: Two Parents, Two Homes (available in English and Spanish) 
  • Getting to Know FCPS: A Family Orientation (available in Arabic, Korean, and Spanish)
  • Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Family Training: Teaching Self-Help and Independent Skills 
  • ABA Family Training: Toilet Training

Advanced Academic Programs for Military Families Virtual Workshop

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) Family and School Partnerships (FSP) Office will be facilitating a virtual workshop given by the Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) Office on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at 6 p.m.

This workshop will provide information on the AAP philosophy and continuum of services, the screening process for students with previous advanced academic services, those new to AAP, and what services look like at the various school levels.The presentation will be geared towards military families, and parents/guardians may submit questions beforehand.

This virtual event will be held via Zoom. To register for the workshop, as well as submit questions for the AAP office, please fill out this Google form by Friday, April 11, 2025. For more information and/or to connect with FCPS resources, email us at militaryfamilies@fcps.edu.

The Alden’s 2025 Youth Production: “Stuart Little”

Saturday and Sunday, April 5 and 6, 2 p.m. at The MCC

$10/$7 students and seniors/$5 MCC district residents.

This one-hour version will see Stuart through adventures, life lessons and funny moments that make up the marvelous maneuverings of a mild-mannered mouse trying to survive in a "real people's" world.  Buy Tickets

Panoramic Sugar Egg

Date: Monday, April 14, 2025
Time: 7:30 - 8:30 p.m.
Location: Great Falls Library

Learn how to create beautiful decorative edible panoramic sugar eggs. Then, decorate your own sugar egg! Learn a new tradition or continue the tradition by bringing your children and grandchildren.

All ages are welcome, children need to attend with a parent or guardian. Registration is required.

Spring Break Trip: Indoor Waterpark

Tuesday, April 15, 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.
$100/$90 MCC district residents
Age at least 10 but less than 14, Mixed

Let’s go swimming! Join us as we head to an indoor waterpark. What’s better than going down water slides or relaxing in a lazy river/wave pool? Water park admission and chartered transportation is included in the fee. Bring at least $20 dollars for lunch, towel, and dry clothes for the ride home. Additional money for snacks and souvenirs can be brought as desired. Register
